Hi! This is my first time posting here. Not sure where this belongs, but here goes. Anyone in the Bay Area (specifically San jose) know where I can re-home a 9wk old Easter Egger Rooster? Thx!

Is the chick crowing?

Yes, he's crowing all day long. He also rounds up the girls & keeps them in line with a little pecking on the head. This picture was taken a few weeks ago. His comb is much more pronounced with 3 distinct rows.

I have heard about rooster rescue places in the bay area.

He is very good looking and likely has the blue egg shell gene. Crossed wit a dark brown egg laying breed, the eggs would be a nice olive color.

I hope you find him a good home!

I'm curious about this too....I need to rehome a young cockerel now also in San Jose. He'll be 14 weeks old on Tuesday and is a gorgeous dark cinnamon buff cochin. He's been great so far with humans including my two toddlers who help with the chickens every day, but he is being very aggressive with my other chickens and the rest of the flock is quite upset with him so he has to go unfortunately. Oddly enough, he is not crowing yet, even though all of the other cockerels in with him are (except for one other bantam cochin I'm unsure of yet, who he bullies the most.)

we also had an unexpected rooster when our chick grew up. We ended up taking him to Mike's Feed Store where a farmer adopted him. There are a lot of folks that go there an even leave their names looking for a good rooster.

I work the front desk at Lindsay Wildlife Hospital, and when we get calls like yours (which happens more often than you might think ) we usually refer them to Hosanna Homes in Castro Valley. It's an organization that works with foster kids, and one of their branches is a ranch where the kids get the opportunity to connect with farm animals. Same thing happened to me. I took him to the Berkeley animal shelter.

We just got a smoke advisory down here in the South Bay. I'm so sorry for all of you who are dealing with this in your home and cities! I hop you are all safe.

Being new to the area, I'm not used to fires like this so I've been googling about how to protect my flock. I came across this pretty standard article: https://www.communitychickens.com/care-for-chickens-during-wildfires/

Does anyone else have any tips? I know things aren't bad here yet but I remember how quickly things got bad last year so now that I have chickens I want to be prepared to best care for them.
