Have a vehicle ready for evacuation. Have crates, food and water to last them a week. How many chickens do you have?We just got a smoke advisory down here in the South Bay. I'm so sorry for all of you who are dealing with this in your home and cities! I hop you are all safe.
Being new to the area, I'm not used to fires like this so I've been googling about how to protect my flock. I came across this pretty standard article: https://www.communitychickens.com/care-for-chickens-during-wildfires/
Does anyone else have any tips? I know things aren't bad here yet but I remember how quickly things got bad last year so now that I have chickens I want to be prepared to best care for them.
Ooh great call on the crates! I definitely need to get some more. I've got eight 14 week olds, six 9 week olds and twelve 5 week olds. I've only got one big portable cage but I'll get more now! What's the best way to crate them for emergency travel?Have a vehicle ready for evacuation. Have crates, food and water to last them a week. How many chickens do you have?

View attachment 1456539 I have a 2 month-old rooster that needs rehoming also if anyone is able to take him. He is a black Orpington with a few red feathers (mixed with Partridge). He has grown a lot since these pics; should be very large.
