California - Northern

they will be fine! They are looking for worms and bugs in the wet ground LOL
Those nasty girls love earwigs. We have a ritual where I lift up the Two concrete blocks their wateres sit in so they can eat all the bugs. But it’s been slim pickins lately. Oh and the salmon colored Oak gall wasp eggs that fall off the trees with every breeze. 🤢

Hey there NorCal peeps :) Is there anyone in the redding/shasta county area that would be interested in a 12 week olive egger cockerel? I've tried putting him on craigslist, but I'm only getting weirdos replying. He's a real cutie, and isn't aggressive so far.

Have you tried the Facebook pages? You might try CA Rooster Rehoming and the Sacraments Poultry page…we have a bunch of people on that page from Chico/red bluff :-) I know there’s a lady here in Sac that takes unwanted roosters too! Linda Easton-Waller at Gullyrumpus Farms. Good luck!

Didn't even think about using facebook. Thanks for the resources and ideas! :)

Anyone know of any duck adoption organizations in NorCal? I have tried to inquire about several ducks, but Iam always too late or I never hear back. I'm a lil bummed, and i had my heart set on adding another duckie so I'll have a quacking quintet. Any resources?

I inquired at Animal Place (a fantastic organization!), but haven't heard back. They have very strict requirements, so they might not think I'm qualified (maybe because I don't have a natural pond or because my ducks and chickens cohabitate? Idk).

I have the room and the means....

Have you tried Madhatchers.com? I’m not aware of any rescues, but there are a bunch on their page once you sign up. I never receive spam from them, it’s a nice place to look for specific things. :-)

If you want to rescue ducks, I would look around spring and summer. A lot of people buy ducks and have no idea what they are getting into and end up rehoming them. We got one of our ducklings off craigslist that way. Poor thing, I thought she was going to have major deficiency issues because all the college student fed her was strawberries and lettuce. She was soo starved for food and attention. We got her a friend and she talked nearly nonstop for two days.

You may still find some now, but I think you will have more success during another time of the year. There are a lot who end up being rehomed around spring and summer.
