California - Northern

If you want to rescue ducks, I would look around spring and summer. A lot of people buy ducks and have no idea what they are getting into and end up rehoming them. We got one of our ducklings off craigslist that way. Poor thing, I thought she was going to have major deficiency issues because all the college student fed her was strawberries and lettuce. She was soo starved for food and attention. We got her a friend and she talked nearly nonstop for two days.

You may still find some now, but I think you will have more success during another time of the year. There are a lot who end up being rehomed around spring and summer.
That’s so sweet you adopted her :))))

:frow hello fellow Californians. Hope you're all doing well this season. Stay warm and safe!
so far we have been fine here!

I do have my backup flashlights ready though.

I hope the wind doesnt get as bad as the last storm....what was it, in January or February? I worry about trees falling on the house.
We removed the dangerous tree in the front yard last spring. It was in line to smash our car and the neighbors car.

High winds do not make me as nervous anymore.

It snowed more than usual up here this week. Our schools had a snow day on Tuesday because so many were without power and the buses couldn't reach everyone.

We lost 3 trees, as far as we know. There may be more but we haven't inspected the whole property. There's at least 2 more that will need to come down this weekend. There are a couple that would take put our house if they fell - huuuuge Sweet Pines. But I'm not too worried about the pines or the cedars. It's always the oaks that fall. There are no oaks near the house.

The ducks loved the snow! Chickens... not so much, except for Clary, my Spitz. That girl isn't afraid of anything - haha! My goats thought the world was ending.

Got a little bit of sun today, thank goodness. We could use a little drying out. The goat pen, in particular, is swampy. I need a couple of days to get it set to rights!

And I see it's supposed to rain ALL next week. Like, we need the rain, but itd be better spread out over the year, not dumped on the state all at once in these huge downpours.

I agree @Aunt Angus I am all for rain, but these short term rain dumps are not my favorite. Nor are they as useful to our groundwater recharge deficits. I don’t even mind the rain as much as the horrible wind we got! I’m soooo worried about the fences coming down and our neighbors oak trees. Oaks are way worse than conifers about dropping ginormous branches and the chickens are right under two huge old valley oaks. Glad everyone is managing and staying warm and safe!

There's a couple trees that we've has since I was a child but, there's 5 palm trees my mom planted 15 years ago that (IMO) don't have enough ground room to grow.

How come Oaks are more likely to fall than Pines? Very interesting!

It was nice to see the sun for a little bit yesterday.
Hi guys! I am in the Bay Area! Can't believe I didn't find this sooner! We also had a storm, so far, no trees have fallen which is good. We lost two this year to the storm we had earlier though.
Welcome! I'm in the valley :frow glad you stayed safe!

I completely agree with the rain. I don't like rain but, we need rain. I remember there was more rain and thunder storms as a kid than now.
