California - Northern

Hello fellow Cali chicken people! I’m in the Yuba-Sutter area hoping to connect to other chicken owners to gain experience and community. I started my flock with one rescue chicken (if you’re from here you know about the wild chickens lol) and now have a herd of baby pullets just a couple weeks away from joining her in the coop.
Welcome, Duckysquacker! My wife and I are are in the COP (Chico-Oroville-Paradise) area. I hope you find this site as informative in all areas of chicks and chickens as I have! Never hesitate to explore the site to find answers or ask questions for answers you can't find. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here!

I know there are a bunch of us Northern California types here (yeah, I'm talking to you).

Now, the question is where do we draw the line between North and South?

I hope you find some!

I have had luck ordering hatching eggs for rare breeds.
I ordered two batches this year. The first batch had two develop. One managed to zip through a blood vessel and bled out, the other hatched late, hatched late for reasons, and didn't make it. I had 8 develop out of the second batch, survive into lockdown, then just didn't hatch. Not one.

This is why I would like to see if I can find some chicks within driving distance.

Um, I would just take the state and divide it into thirds (equal distances), north to south and have northern, southern, middle. Can't use 'central' as that is already the division used for the central valley.

Never could understand how I could drive five hours South and finally hit what is called Northern Ca.

As it is, I usually say "Update California" for the actual northern section.
