Dawn, they are a gamefowl but from what I've read they're one of the less aggressive breeds. You supposedly can actually keep adult males with other roosters and they will not fight to the death. I won't be keeping any of the roosters that my broody (hopefully

) hatches though.

I mainly wanted these eggs for the Dun gene. I plan on starting an Ameraucana project using the Dun color and it was either Sumatras or Polish to utilize in order to start the process. To me the Sumatra seemed more similar to an Ameraucana than a Polish, so... it seemed logical to go with them.

That and I got the eggs for FREE!

I'm really excited to see what hatches, I wish I could speed the incubation process up!

Thanks for the explanation! (Free is good!)

I am not familiar with the Dun coloration...is is a dilute of something?
How about you work on an Ameraucana project using the Dun color, and I will work on feather-footed splash Olive Eggers! Or Mille Fleur EE?? Then we can meet up with all the other pseudo-geneticists and trade eggs and birds! I love it! ha HA!

Out on a Saunter...

Some* pictures from today.

The first photos are of my W/BW/SW Ameraucana cockerels. I'm holding on to like 10 boys this year in hopes of picking out a younger guy that is better than Claude. We'll see.

My Wheaten cockerel from Paul Smith, he's around 3 months old now, no name yet.

I also have a Splash Wheaten from Paul, I've been calling this one Harold lately. Dawn- whaddya think?

This Wheaten boy is from John Blehm, he's almost a month younger, hatched around the 20th of March. This is Hoyt.

Aaand, my Blue Wheaten hen Judy hatched chicks almost 3 weeks ago now, the darker chicks are OEs and the paler ones are EEs from Claude over Delaware hens.

I hatched chicks from Wayne Meredith on Easter, too. This little guy was one of the only ones who wanted to hold still enough for a photo... they're entering the gangly dinosaur stage right now.

I'm pretty sure this chick will be a Blue Wheaten cockerel, which is good. I don't have any older BW boys to grow out right now.

My Blue Copper Marans pullet from Monique's stock.

I think she has lovely coppering.

Finally a couple pictures of my Canaries, I mean Buff Leghorns.

These guys are from Bridget Riddle and are the most adorable chicks. They are complete freaks though, if you make ANY movement AT ALL around them they go into convulsions and start flapping around as if you were trying to kill them.

They're pretty though and I need a white egg layer, I've got 2 pullets and 1 cockerel. The cockerel will eventually go to a new home.

In person they are a much richer Buff color, especially the cockerel. It was overcast outside today and I couldn't really capture the depth of their color too well.

*Some might have been an understatement...

Another animal rehoming request.

Sharon my friend with cancer must rehome these two amazing blue-pointed RAG DOLL cats, born in 2000, so 11 years old. Fabulous health, all current on shots of course, these gorgeous boys (both boys) just lounge and are called Rag Doll cats because they just are like big fluffy ragdolls when they are held.

She paid quite a bit of money for them as they are purebreds. These are FREE to the right home.... please PM if you are interested

Here some info on the breed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragdoll

Alice is now my third Orpington who has tried to go broody and she (thinks she) means business. I even tempted her with some scratch and she wouldn't budge!

I ended up pulling her off of the one egg she was sitting on and moving her to where the rest of the flock was. Silly chicken.

I'm in Fresno... Central Valley! Is there a group, or is this where I should be? The exact mid point of California, is up in the hills just east of Fresno, less than an hour drive away. Midway North, South, East West.

I've started a group to change Fresno city ordinances to be backyard chicken friendly. I don't have any chickens, never have had them... but would like to one day, along with a few other small animals so I can hand make my own yarn, thread etc... I started the group because of food safety, security and access issues. Fresno is the #1 agricultural county in the entire USA, but we also have pockets of poverty that rival the entire Katrina flood basin and the Appalachias. It's not a matter of no food, it's a matter of access to healthy, affordable food. One out of four people in Fresno doesn't get enough to eat, over 80% of them children. Oh yeah... We have a FaceBook page "Central California Local Urban Chicken Keepers (CCLUCK)".

I'm a textile artist and a CockTail Doodler! I love drawing roosters in ink!!! Many of the pictures posted have been the inspiration for my doodle roosters... They aren't realistic, as much as they are graphic. I'm hoping to sell greeting cards with my doodles on them to help fund my work in edible landscapes, community & school gardens, backyard chickens and other food access/security issues. Gotta Eat!

Not sure if I posted my "Wild Hawaiian Rooster" or not!

I used to live in Pleasanton, California... East Bay of the SF Bay area for 25 years. My heart is still there, but I'm needed here!
