Cool!!! That's where I shop. It's a bit of a drive for me but I stock up while I'm there and it pays off. I get the 18% flock raiser (among other things). Best prices around.

There is a Dealer in Vacaville, which is not too far from where I work(UC Davis). I could get there and back on my lunch hour. The problem is they only carry Rabbit feed, saying that the poultry feed did not sell well. I asked them to order two bags for me last week but I am going to need some layer feed soon. I called them today and they verified that they had ordered it but did not know when it would be in- they are supposed to call me back with an ETA for the feed.

I could go to another Dealer of King Brand feed, but the other dealers are pretty far from me. There is one in Lincoln, but that is 44 miles from my house. I may use the Purina Omega three Layer pellets or something else from TSC in Woodland. I really don't want to though

I don't blame you for that! I live 45 mins away from One Stop Ranch and feed but with their prices it pays off. I get 5 bags of feed plus 3 bags of dog food regularly. Have to budget strictly to have enough to buy all at once but I save in the long run. The dog food alone is almost $8 (per bag) cheaper at One Stop. It's a long drive but it's worth it to live out here where it's quiet. After living in the Bay Area for most of my life, I am enjoying the peace and quiet of country life. But it does mean long treks into town for supplies.

Until I was 17(Dad had Multiple Sclerosis so could not keep the place--it takes money to keep a small place going), my family owned 40 acres with a 15 acre Prune Orchard. We live in a house that my Dad built, tucked into the first rows of the Orchard. The road was a dead end road named after my Great Grandfather who surveyed the area and bought a bunch of land there in the 1920's. Yes it was Ottman Ave. The closest store was a little market, like a 7-11 called the Proberta Store. It was a great place for candy and RC Cola's but was not great for buying groceries. Red Bluff was closer but it was still 20 minutes away, so from a very early age I learned to plan. If you wanted to make cookies, you could not just head to the store and get some sugar.

I still plan like that. I currently live in Woodland and make a weekly menu and shopping list. I then travel to Dixon or West Sac to the Super Walmart stores there. I save a lot of money doing this. Woodland won't allow Walmart to expand the current store, so we are stuck with relatively expensive stores. I also shop and Costco and am part of a monthly Azure Standard Drop. I also hit the Grocery Outlet regularly.

I am still having trouble getting King Brand Feed. Lincoln does not carry it any more and the one in Galt said they don't have the natural layer there. The guy there said I could get it at Lodi. That is way too far. I might as well see if Marysville has it or head to the Bay Area. I hope to hear back from Western Ranch soon.

You might have a hard time finding it in the Bay area. We are in the East Bay in Antioch and I called quite a few feed stores in a 30 mile radius looking for it without any success. Scotts Valley Feed carries it and my DH works in Santa Cruz during the week. So I call the feed store, put the wanted items on hold, and DH picks them up on his way home on Friday.

What a cool story! I'm still trying to get used to planning way ahead. I make way too many trips into town. I lived on a farm when I was a kid but we were only 15 minutes from the grocery store by bike. We were the first farm outside of the city limits on our street in Morgan Hill. What a cool story! I'm still trying to get used to planning way ahead. I make way too many trips into town. I lived on a farm when I was a kid but we were only 15 minutes from the grocery store by bike. We were the first farm outside of the city limits on our street in Morgan Hill. So we never worried about stocking up once a month. I'm learning... slowly.

Mostly I plan for a week. There are a couple of things I get Monthly, like Grnd Beef and Chicken Breasts form Costco. I break down the Grnd beef into 6(roughly) 1 pound pieces and freeze them. Then I use those during the month for dinners. Tonight I am making my own Chicken strips with one of the pouches or Chicken Brst. The main thing I do is a weekly menu and then a shopping list. I use Microsoft Publisher to create monthly calendar and on Saturday set that weeks menu for dinners. I then make a shopping list using an add on in Mozilla Firefox. After that, I figure out which things I want to get where, like Chicken breast from Costco and etc. I also check to see what I can use that is on Coupon at Costco, like Laundry soap.

One week for most things is best, because produce spoils too fast to use a month.

I can go back to old Menu Calendars to see what I cooked the year before in the same month. I stick the calendar onto the refrigerator so everyone can see what I am cooking.

I went to Kim's(capayvalley Chick) to pick up Dorking eggs to hatch for her. What a nice place

!

I came back with 60 eggs to hatch.

This one has 40

The eggs are from two different breeding groups. I hope they all hatch

or at least we get a better hatch rate this time.

Lauriks, You may be starting something if your Mom gets hooked like I did. I wanted to try call ducks eggs but heard they are really hard to hatch & I was already having trouble with so many shipped eggs. I hope your Mom has a really good hatch.

Ron, good for you.................. Out of shipped eggs I only have one pair of Silver Dorking from last season's hatch. I saw none for sale at Stockton or Fresno show. I will be sending good hatching vibes to you & Kim on all those Dorking eggs.

This year I am all about staying away from shipped eggs if I can. I have enough nice birds of my own to hatch from & between friends hope to trade.
