How on earth can I keep the chickens' water clean when the dingdang freakin' geese keep jumping in it??!?

Good thing a watering system is next on the to-do list...

It turns out that two of the three Dorkings from Poultry Palace are a special project--Dorking and Americana crosses. Emma is shipping me a new dozen of the real deal, SG Dorking eggs.

I hatched 7 FBC Marans

This is a picture of three of them:

Why do I get the attitude so often? This is one of my two Partridge Rock Pullets form McMurray:

Have a good night!

Hey Ron, thanks for the invite to this thread. Glad to connect to some more Nor Cal chicken fanatics! I'll try to catch up on some of the recent discussion. I did see someone had questions about breeding pens. I have the same questions. I'm gonna be building some soon and would love some input and advice.

Are any of those EO Basque Hens going to be extra? I am definitely interested! :) Where did you get the eggs? Do you recommend in case I need to plan that for my next hatch? where did you get your CL? I had a great hatch last time from two different breeders, got 2 cockerels and 4 pullets. I have some in this hatch but only 2/4 are developing, then I had that power loss for about 8-10 hours so not really sure how my eggs are in general. didn't see much movement when I candled last night. Hoping for the best.

I have Marans eggs from Linda Hammid hatching today. They are beautiful eggs--Linda said they were at the end of laying season, so were lighter but they are very dark.

These guys will drive me crazy though. They did not have their first pip until last night, well into day 21. Out of 13 set I had 6 pips this morning with one zipping when I left for work. Someone posted on the marans thread(3600 something posts? I will never read all of those) that they were like clock work: pips on day 21 and hatching done by day 23. Crazy!

I hope I don't have to wait until day 27

Hatching update: EO Basque hens, 13 of 15 look good. 1 clear and 1 looks like an early quitter. Cream Legbars, 5 of 6 look good. One is questionable but may be clear.

It's great to have you here!

Quote: Yes, I should have extras. Someone from the north coast was interested too thought. I will let you know.

Mine are from James Meeks. He started the Basque Hen Thread.

OK, great, thanks! Yeah, I'm especially worried that I'm not gonna get that many from this hatch due to my power outtage... I did discover the cause. Kids were playing with space heaters and plugged two in to same circuit, blew the breaker. My wife (god bless her) didn't think to reset the switch or check the bator. So, they sat for about 10 hours while I was at work... so hope they still hatch. Really was looking forward to a better SFH hatch than my last one!

I'll check out the Basque thread. Thanks. Sounds like you have a had a great result thus far.

If there is a group that meets in our area, I would love to know about it. I have the books, magazines and this forum . . . and they tend to contradict each other! Would love to actually meet people with chickens to find out what they are doing.

I'm in Concord. You're welcome to PM me, and come see my hens....
