California - Northern

I seem to have become the chicken referral person.

Anyway, I was contacted from a lady in the Sacramento area that is looking for show/breeder quality welsummer. She wants to be able to drive to pick them up. I think she'd be interested in chicks through adults. If you have something available, please send me a PM and I'll put you in contact. I think she'd prefer to not drive more than an hour or so, she told me she talked to someone in Novato and she preferred to not drive that far.

I don't think she is looking to show, but she does not want hatchery birds.

Thanks,
Deb

Yes, that sounds great. Let me know where.

Has he seen the Basque hens there? That would be so cool. They show them in competitions in Spain.

Bye,

Ron

Wherever works for you is fine. PM me where you prefer and he'll be there!

I asked him if he had ever seen the Marraduna Basque's in Spain and he said he doesn't know a lot about chickens but is pretty sure he's seen them up North (meaning the Basque country.) Johnny is from Madrid. How cool is that?

UC DAVIS FEDEX INFO: Their account # is 364343981. If you use their account number you will get to use UC Davis's discount which is up to 70% off. They said that they will bill you for the shipment after you get the report (or at the same time.) Also, FedEx and UPS both ship to the actual lab every day... the Postal Service doesn't. Pretty awesome huh? I guess this is what I get for stalking them all week about my chick package!

So sorry to hear that. Does it try to get the chickens in the day time?

Ron
The chickens no longer free range, but are stuck in their coops with the door opened a crack for fresh air. It does come and stare at the ones in the run.

Your Welcome on bumping your post. It looked like yours might have been forgotten with all the pictures of pretty EEs.

I have one FBCM Pullet now if you want her. They are 8 weeks old. Send a PM if you are inters ted. Maybe after someone buys your roos?

A tip for Craig's list--put either a phone number or email address in the add. Craig's list replies often go into junk or spam.

Hello Everyone! It's great to find a Northern California thread.

I live in Monterey County.

It is great to hear from you! I love Monterey--compared to Woodland the restaurant food is several notches above it. It's also beautiful with great weather!

Have you had chickens long or are you just starting?

We love to see pictures.

I looked up the ingredients in the king non soy. It does not say non GMO, but is does not have Corn. I think wheat is less likely to be GMO and if I recall correctly, GMO Wheat is not as bad as GMO Corn.

Here is the label:

The chicks are due on the 8th
I hope yours do well!

I have GLW(golden Laced Wyentotte) set to hatch this weekend. I am hoping for a better hatch this time

It looks like I am having better development on the Heritage RIRs. Out of 23 set, I removed 3 today. There are about 5 questionable. The rest are starting to vein.

The GLWs had 7 out of 18 make it to lockdown.

Hi Ron! I am so glad to have found this thread

My husband and I moved from, San Jose, last year to Monterey County. We absolutely love this area! There are so many great restaurants and fantastic weather. We purchased a house with 3.5 acres. It is wonderful to finally have the room for all of our chickens and ducks. I have raised ducks for several years and just started with chickens after the move. We adopted a Pekin duck, Mallard duck, two Barred Rock hens, a Rhode Island Red hen, an Ameraucana hen, and a mixed bantam rooster at our local shelter. They are all absolute sweethearts! A few weeks ago, I decided to purchase some little chicks at the feed store by our home. I have two bantam Polish, two bantam Silkies, two Jersey Giants, and four Ameraucana babies. I am still trying to figure out the genders of the bantams. I also hatched a mallard drake (Shamus), in an incubator, a few months ago! I am really enjoying all of our poultry friends! Here are a few pictures of our peeps!
