Thanks! I LOVE these geese. They are SO different from ducks. Like big time. They are truly 'pets'. Ducks to me are a bout like cats that don't want to sit in your lap. You feed them, they mind their own business, do their own thing and they call the shots whether they want you near or not. Geese so far to - are more like dogs. They are so precious!!!! They even eat grass!

I am raising them for pets mostly. In the Spring they lay a small quantity of eggs- so I am not depending on them for eggs. I have 1 goose and 1 gander. Since they are pet quality- I don't think I will let them hatch their own eggs. I will likely get Sarah some Brown African hatching eggs (from a better quality Brown African parent set) in the Spring (more likely the following Spring though) if she goes broody. They nibble all the green stuff down which is handy. I am hoping their sheer size will intimidate the hawks a bit to be honest so they will stop eyeballing my ducks. We won't eat them. I would rather eat a duck than a goose. And I would rather eat a chicken than a duck. So...we have chickens. rofl![]()
Are you raising them for meat or eggs? You probably already told us and I forgot.![]()
How many are you going to keep?

haha Word! I am really loving the geese so far. They are extremely personable and love human interaction. My ducks only like you so long as you have something yummy for their tummies. The geese just like to talk to you. Or at least ours seem to so far.Glad to see they are doing so well. Your expert care paid off. Thanks for sharing the lovely pics. Beautiful little "puppies"! Guard "dogs" and lawnmowers in one! Truly dual purpose.![]()
Thanks! I love it when the ducks do it. But they stop like 20 feet away from me to see if I have tasty vittles. Land vultures really.AAWwWWwwwW!!!
I love baby geese - especially when they run to you with their teeny wings flapping!![]()
They still do that when they're grown - but the wings are a LOTTT bigger!

That is a great idea, but I crunch in a coffee grinder...great idea !!Could you feed some kitten food with your crumbles/layer? Chickens evolved around creeks and ate little fish out of the river to get their protein. Kitten food has the fish oil and protein they need in it for their feathers to be extra strong- not flimsy.
Protein would be good with both, as long as the chicks are around 5-6 months, the chicks are growing, and the hens need protein to keep them producing eggs.
