Thanks for checking on my chicks!

The formerly 'sick' Marans roo is totally 100% fine. I see no issue with him at all. He is trying to CROW oh my gosh. What a sick sick sound. Ahhhhjkaaaaaaaaahhhh! He says lmbo.

My Buff Orp roo tho is the same. I finally got some good footage of what he has been doing.
He doesn't do that alllll the time but very frequently. But you can clearly see he's not right. I wonder if this is bacterial- something he somehow ingested because he's been 'afflicted' since Saturday morning/Friday night. So if it is contagious- it must be slow moving or I separated them all in time. It's hard to say yet.

The other 4 of the same age spent their first night outside and did great. The exhibit absolutely NO symptoms. No gaping or open beaks unless they are singing.

My 2 week old babies are also totally fine.

I don't want the Buff Orp to get lonely, so I am leaving the other one in there for company. But honestly- no matter how you look at it. I am going to have cull the Orp. I mean- honestly...since I have no idea what is causing it and no one else is sick- I cannot introduce him back into the flock you know? I am just sick about it. Will someone please share with me how to cull such a young chick and what is the best way to dispose of the body? :(

Can chicks inhale foxtails? Or swallow them and they get stuck? Our outdoor cat gets them all the time- pricey vet bill by the way. And my mil's Pomeranian dog had one stuck in his nose. We thought he has allergies. He kept sneezing. Went on for over a week- eventually sneezing blood too. Found a foxtail embedded in his nose! I don't know...grasping at straws because his symptoms are the same. And no snot or wet eyes or anything.
 
Does anyone know the name of the place in sacramento that will process chickens. I called last summer and now I can't remember the name. They had a 10 chicken minimum supposedly for $25 for 10 at least last summer. Anyone know the name?
 
Ok, so here are pictures of the pullets I took last week:







So, like the two of you that responsded, I thought they looked a lot like buff orps when they came. They were supposed to be Swedish Flower hens. They were banded with a yellow band to track them as I have SFHs from multiple sources and I wanted to be able to keep track. All the other chicks developed with characteristic color patterning that I've seen of SFHs but those two just never quite fit in.

Gonna send the pictures to the breeder just to see if he has any other ideas. This would be the first time I didn't get what I paid for in all my chick/egg ordering, well except for the person on ebay who sent me 3 dozen non-fertilized eggs. HA! They were from like 2 hours away from here came the same day and not a one fertile, all clears. At least they were cheap and of course no response from the seller to my inquiries. funny.

otherwise, i've had such easy dealings, just trying to figure how to deal with this one....

If you cull him, send him to UCD for a Necropsy. It is free and you even get to use UCDs discounted shipping via FEDEX.
Don't freeze the Carcass. You will get a great detailed report that will have information on the illness and the general health of your flock.

You can send dead birds here for necropsy testing. I hope you don't need it, but Debi/PetRock suggested this addition and it's a good one. Thanks Debi and Ron, for the link.

UC DAVIS FEDEX INFO: Their account # is 364343981. If you use their account number you will get to use UC Davis's discount which is up to 70% off. They said that they will bill you for the shipment after you get the report (or at the same time.) Also, FedEx and UPS both ship to the actual lab every day... the Postal Service doesn't.

Am I missing something? I cannot find info that gives me directions or instructions?
