How on earth do you hide them? They crow don't they (or maybe yours are young?)? Or did you get lucky with some quiet ones?I did the lighting last year but I won't this year, mostly because the hens got too noisy at 4:30 in the morning....I have to keep the neighbors happy since I am hiding roosters here
People do like the dark brown and blue green eggs.

This is refreshing. Our life has ups and downs (but we try to keep it as predictable as we can within reason) and sometimes we accidentally sleep in, or my mom in law has to feed them or my kids and they may muck up the routine or something and I need this not to flip them all out.

Oh gotcha!I am following the noise Ordinance for Woodland--quiet from 10:00 to 7:00. I am lucky--my neighbors like the farm sounds in the city. Dogs are noisier here. The Rooster rules aren't about noise anyway. They are about another thing people do with certain specific breeds of Roosters. Not mine though, mine are big babys.

Sometimes but generally not the Crele. still a pretty dark wet terra cotta color. Wheaton and Partridge are usually darker..
