I picked up my Spanish chicks yesterday from Ron. He did such an amazing job hatching them and got a great hatching rate!

I picked up 10 Marraduna Basques and 6 Pita Pintas. Both are from the Basque region in Spain.
Two of my Basques were special needs. The one that was trying to hatch upside down died last night. Ron and I both figured he wasn't going to make it. I have one more special needs chick left. She flops around on her back and can't stand up. She has a normal amount of energy but just can't seem to stand up. I'm giving her some baby vitamins that were recommended to me, as well as both save-a-chick packages and vinegar in her water. We've nicknamed her/him Pinkman because she has two pink leg bands on. She's trying so hard, I hope she makes it!
I took individual pictures of my little guys today (everyone but Pinkman). They all have leg bands now so I can track their progress. They are so fast it's nice to be able to tell them apart by the colored bands! So without further ado, please meet my new little loves:

EO Orange (This one is an escape artist!!):

Hi Megan,

They look so good

Meg they are so super cute!!

4hchick- welcome the NorCal thread!! :D

Ron- the EEs have had flock raiser, some diced peach, offered some chick grit and last night they found a couple stray cheerios when they were walking the kitchen. Nothing else has been offered to them at this time. I figured changing foods was stressful enough. They are doing really good today though. The kids can walk by and they don't freak at all now. They go on about their business. Which is a whole lotta pecking at the floor and dust bathing big time in the fresh pine chips. They are really delightful!

Copper Update: He took a ton of catnaps. He is sipping his electrolyte/probiotic water and he was pecking around the kennel - he looked like he was hungry. So I made him some warm mash and he is working his way through that right now. He seems very hungry. And he took the biggest poo while I was standing there. HUGE! So stuff must be working through his system right now. Before they were little poops. Chickens are crazy resilient! I put some Veterycin spray on his incision. How often should I do this- do you think? Every couple of hours?

for the update! I am happy to hear Copper is recovering nicely.

The EEs are really being spoiled now aren't they. They are very lucky chickens.

Have fun with them!

I hope Copper does recover. He is such a sweet rooster. Considering all I have heard about roosters being mean and awful (and personal experience being attacked by them) - I am pleasantly surprised how sweet they are. Could be breed too. I know they go through a bratty stage for a while- hope not too awful and that it passes. lol The cockerels sure seem to have quite a bit of personality.

The EEs seem less chicken-like than the other chickens we have. Almost pet like really. I am sure we will keep EEs in our flock. They are just good clean fun. :D

Triples for us alllll week. Yay!

Hope you all are staying cooler! The chickens are hanging out under the misters. Should I put sand in the run- the edges of the run are kinda muddy from the misters...

Zooweemama (Amy Beth), Wendy and I am also so sorry for the loss of your Canine "Family member"! They really aren't a "Pet" they are a special part of your Family! They are the part that never complains, forgives all your faults and Loves you unconditionally! I've always felt that when a person loses the "Non-human" member of your Family you do NOT replace them! What you do is continue to love that 'Friend", but you find another "Friend" to give all that LOVE you have in your heart to share! You can't replace Family or Friends but you can give another "Friend" the gift of Love that should not be wasted by grief! Go find "another" Friend to share your Heart with!
