Zooweemama (Amy Beth), Wendy and I am also so sorry for the loss of your Canine "Family member"! They really aren't a "Pet" they are a special part of your Family! They are the part that never complains, forgives all your faults and Loves you unconditionally! I've always felt that when a person loses the "Non-human" member of your Family you do NOTreplace them! What you do is continue to love that 'Friend", but you find another "Friend" to give all that LOVE you have in your heart to share! You can't replace Family or Friends but you can give another "Friend" the gift of Love that should not be wasted by grief! Go find "another" Friend to share your Heart with!
my cream legbars have started to lay!!! at least 3 of these are CL eggs. They are actually blue though they look green in this picture. the top egg was a first egg from one of my girls, so big compared to all the other firsts. I'm gonna have to incubate from her in a week or two! so excited
oh they are so cute!!! i will hopefully be getting four chicks sometime in the next two weeks (2 cream legbars, two lavender/blue orpingtons), can't wait -- but love seeing your little flock! i don't know anything about those breeds...
How exciting for you! Baby chicks are so fun to have around.. and so cute! Both breeds are from the Basque region of Spain. My boyfriend is from Spain so we felt an immediate attachment to these breeds (and they turned out to be super awesome!) You will have fun picking out your new little guys
So sorry about your dog, I have four (the oldest will be 10 in October). They are my "kids". When my human son is coming over to house/pet sit when we travel, I always tell him to be nice to his brother and sisters.
ETA - I can relate to the pic of your daughter. We do the adult version. We have a couple of chairs set up in front of each of our coop/runs. Every night DH and I take an "adult beverage" and sit and watch the chickens. We always laugh that we REALLY know how to have a good time.
You can see a couple of our chairs to the side.
Thanks, I was pretty happy. I spoke with the judge, he said the only thing he didn't like was his head wasn't big enough and his body wasn't filled out enough. He said the size, color and tail set were perfect. I pointed out the bird just turned 5 mos and he said "Oh, then he will be there in a few months". I got them from Dick Horstman. I will have an extra cockerel or two to get rid of when I make my final selection for my future breeding pen. This was the boy I liked best when we were prepping for show, but they are all young still. I really hadn't even planned this breed. I was buying something else and these were added to the box as fillers. Now they are one of my DH's favorites and he wants to keep raising them. This one (Roy) was actually entered as his since he likes the feather legged breeds very much.
I took my camera with me yesterday to take pictures of the birds in their cages, and I forgot
I remembered about the time we had walked back out in the heat to the exhibitor's shuttle bus. I looked at my DH and said there is no way I'm walking back, my feet hurt too much. I had been standing on a hard floor for six straight hours at that point, ouch! I'll try to take pictures before I load them when we coop-out (before they get put back in the runs with all the other birds and lose their clean shiny look
).
Sorry, I've been showing animals for so many decades, the acronyms just pop out naturally. BB stands for Best of Breed. BV, Best of Variety (color), BIS, Best in Show.
Poultry shows work much like dog shows, in order to get to the top, you have to win - your class, your variety, your breed, your group (such as American, Continental, Asiatic, etc - equates to Hound, Sporting, Terrier, Toy, etc), Large Fowl/Small Fowl, then you'd get BIS.
Did you get some pictures? I would love to see all of your winning chickens, especially the bantam buff Brahmas since that is what I have. I am interested to see Dick Horstman's line since I have the John Neff and Darlene Hobbs lines. I could probably use those lines in the future and maybe you could use my two lines

Do you have the Ameraucana color chart? The camera and then each monitor will show different colors. The good news is on some monitors they will look like the correct color.
are they up to 1.75 ounces yet? That is hatching size.
Nope, they will have constant crow-offs. You should hear my yard with 75+ roos. I've wondered if my neighbors think there is a cockfighting operation going on here.
The neighbors down the street have tried again to keep chickens (saw a dead ripped up broiler on the side of the road). Now that their cockerels are crowing, our roo's won't stop!
