Anyone want to see baby chick pictures?! They're one week old today and already getting tail feathers and wings! They also got their first treats today (dried mealworms) and are now on wood shavings. We're doing big things today! hahaha

Hello! I'm Laurie in Livermore. I've posted here before. I have a problem. I'm in a no rooster city. This morning, I woke up to beginner crowing! The culprit seems to be a Cuckoo Marans french type (feathered legs). The little guy is only 11 weeks old! Roody Roo has to go, today, before the neighbors have the police here. I'd be willing to drive him up to 80 miles or so due to the urgent situation. So, does anyone want a precocious little Cuckoo Marans guy? Today??
Thanks for your consideration.

ok I know you all will understand this.
I am cracking up
With my younger chickens in the grow up pen I have 2 25 gallon bamboo in there.
I love watching the young chickens jump up to grab the leaves.
it really makes me laugh when one gets one and it does not pull off the bamboo.
then you have a chicken (usually one of my icelandics)
dangling from a bamboo leaf.

ok for local pickup for free
I have a mostly white Icelandic rooster ( freindly guy) 8 weeks?? lost track lol

a black Ameraucana rooster 3 months. not crowing but am sure he is one
also a pair of legbar x welsummer/penedesenca crosses about 8 weeks . a rooster and a hen.
look closer to welsummer than legbar.
the hen looks more like she has welsummer in here to me ( though I am not a welsummer expert)
rooster seems to be the penedesenca x legbar cross

Hi Laurie, in Livermore. I am Karen in Turlock. I do not have Cuckoo Marans or I would take your little guy. I have BCMs, Wheaten Marans & GCMs & have promised myself no more new breed/varieties. I can keep up with pens space...... If you would like to take a drive a few of us chicken lovers are going to meet here for a pot luck/swim gathering on the 19th of this month. There are others that have chickens and or hatching eggs to trade/sell/swap. If you want to join us let me know & I will send the details.

also who has hatching eggs and of what for pick up.?

mostly wanting icelandic's ( which I can even trade as I have 2 laying hens) if you want to try some eggs too
or I can get you some olive egger or ee crosses ( may be crested)
I want icelandic , or Catalina , penedesenca ( doubt this ) mille fleur leghorn ( though these seem to spendy for my purpose)
or let me know what you have and if you want any eggs.

My icelandic's are all crested.
thanks Jason

We came up to Lake Tahoe to spend the night. It was raining HARD, with lots of thunder and lightening. It was so refreshing after all the heat at home. Although, it just never clicked with me to pack a jacket, since I had the AC on at home and I only live an hour away. It was quite chilly last night and I had to come in from the balcony.

Dang, didn't ask the house sitter (my son) to lock up the chickens last night. We have some that still need to be picked up and put in the coop at lockdown. They just got moved outside and still haven't put it together. I hope they were smart enough to go in last night on their own. Otherwise they would have had to huddle up under the coop/overhang.

It's one thing to ask your house sitter to let the dogs in/out, throw hay to the sheep/alpacas, drop the pop doors on the coops, it's quite another to ask them to catch 50 or so teenage chicks and place them into the coop because they are too silly to go up the ladder!

My new Ecoglow 50 stopped working last night. Crap!! I woke up this morning and it won't turn on. The chicks aren't huddling or acting cold but will they get sick from being cold during the night? Dude, not cool! Luckily my boyfriends sister is here to get her quail so when she leaves we can use the red light we're using for them right now. Ugh!
