That was a good day! But wait, 4 chickens gone and how many on the way? Sounds like chicken math strikes again! Good thing you've got that nice grow out pen!

WHEW! quite the day at our house.
It was meant to be a full day. Zip over to Vacaville to pick up the chickens from Ron, finish the doors and bottom walls of Silkieland ( the new coop and run for the silkies that is entirely enclosed by trees) put walls on the extra quail coop and put it in the grow out pen so the cl's could be in their own space and the grow out boys would just walk past them at night into thier own coop, drop a rooster off in Santa Cruze, move the 2 girls with big babies out into the broody coops so they stopped jumping out of the brooder and running around my garage, talk to the 2 people coming over to learn about silkies, pick up some button quail fro a guy that didn't want them anymore in Milpidas, and get home by dark to make sure the chickens all found their way home to the new spaces and no one freaked out.
perhaps just a leeetell ambitious!

Well, part 1 went off without a hitch! The rest not so much....
We got 1/2 of silkieland done, so the rest of the who was going where plan was out the window. Luckily I have a million dog crates, so everyone is in the downstairs workshop in their own little homes where we keep the roosters. Ginger the rooster got delivered, but the quail guy never got back to me, so that was a bust. Not going down and waiting at a supermarket untill I see a guy walking around with buttons...

Ron, your babies are doing great. The Marans decided the only place to lay her eggs was the heirloom tomato plants, and sat there for a few hours pumling then into dust. The egg was very pretty, but so small!! almost like a silkie pullet egg. If I ever find my phone ill post pics of everyone enjoying the day. I had no rooster problems ( don't think they even saw each other) but one of My ee's has decided she has a vendetta to the death with one of the Marans girls, who's got like 1/3 more body weight then she does. I've never seen hens fluff and yowl before! But they were all bluff and no bite, so it was fine.

All in all a crazy day!

Welcome new people, happy to have you join us. Ill post pics tomorrow of the madness, off now to get extra hinges for te new design of the coop we redesigned six times today! And if anyone sees a 2x4 sliding window on craigslist, yell at me!

I am good with about 30 total.. lol well for now.

Well I went out this morning to clean the chicken coop. and was taking a break from the smell and was going to take Ms Suzy out for a walk. We left a couple large peices of ply board in the run way. During day shade for outside and then at evening a table to from. well i guess sometime i board went down and one of my Easter Eggers was under it. I found her this morning when i went to put up the boards. so now I came up with a idea for hubby to do. We have cinder blocks all over the place, send him to HD and get some thicker ply board and make  a small table. they can eat off of and enough room they can fit under if they want. :(

Oh NOOOO! I'm so sorry. :( that is so upsetting...Was that the EE you just got from me?

I glad to here Ms. Suzy was not the one under the board... How is she doing? I love that you take her for walks. She is such a love bug...Molly

No it was one of my older ones. I told my hubby my idea for a table using cinder blocks. he said that would be good, but then when winter comes it would be warped. he said he has something else that would work. Ms. Suzy greets me at the door everytime. my other pet is getting better about her. i feed them meal worms tonight and Ms. Suzy ate it right out of my hand. My girl didn't at first then she saw Ms. Suzy do it, so then she did to. she is funny. she just starts talking when i walk in and is right at my feet. i can tell her apart from my other black chickens cuz she is not far from my feet.

I am so happy that they are getting to stay with you! I have 7 less chickens today! My feed bill will be much lower now.

That was her third egg. It is already bigger than the SG Dorking egg and she has been laying for two weeks now.

Good Night!

Ron
