Yes they do!
Deb
What do you use to "take care" of them? PM me if you don't want to post it publicly. I'm debating whether or not to trap the skunk - see below.Monday night - raccoon
Tuesday night - raccoon
Wednesday night - oppossum
Thursday - go to Walmart and buy more cheap canned cat food, apparently it works!
Deb
No, that would be me. My dog trapped one last week and got sprayed to holy heck - right upside the eyes and nose too. Just what I wanted to do at 10PM with a headlamp and a hose. (my eyes were burning within 5 feet of her, there was NO WAY she was coming in my house!)Your cooking! I haven't seen "Skunk" on there yet...
Quote: I watched an episode of Dirty Jobs where the pest guy was trapping a bunch of critters including skunks. They caught a family of them...even though they covered them to keep it dark, the skunk still sprayed in the trap. I would be careful with skunks--they often have Rabies.

I saw pictures of the tuxedosRon,
you MUST get cots. I'm relying on you to get the tuxedos going! Though, if we have a fair few quail people around, it might be worth getting ahold of the HUGE tanaka project eggs and sharing them around. only worth it if you eat quail. DH has been debating them, but hasn't pulled the trigger yet.
If a few people want to try those quail id buy the eggs and see what hatches. I have ONE pen left!!
(I'm also almost out of quail ready to go outside, people have gone quailsane this week! madness! quail! sparta!)
Also, to report on the Black Solider flys, they are going gangbusters here and we have had enough for treats for all chickens and the turkeys now for about a week. It is having a small impact ( good impact) on the feed bill because they are such a good protien resource. And my friend who is staying with us has been commenting on how much better the fly situation is. Except for looking at them when they are little (EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW) they are FANTASTIC!
How much work is it to process a quail? They are personal sized meat servings since so tiny right? How long until they are ready to eat?Ron,

Quote: Processing is a breeze(compared to chickens or turkeys. When I was in High School I would go hunting for them in the afternoon and get two or three. I would take them home and process them and pop them into the freezer. When I had 8 or so I would make stew out of them. Those were Valley Quail and not as big as the domestic ones.
The website on the Tatanka says they are processing them between 42 and 56 Days. They lay eggs in 6 or so weeks.
Well work kept interrupting so Chiquita probably posted more and better information...
