Hi,
Sorry to bother you all. I am hoping to find some answer here.
We got a violation warning on the door today from city police saying that we need Animal Fancier's permit for our chickens. Only 2 chickens allowed without permit for our lot size (>6000sqft), we have 4.
Why do we need to pay the city for raising chickens on our own property? How much does the permit cost normally? Does this mean one of our neighbours complained to the city or how do they find out?
Thanks,
Han

I am sorry to hear about this!

Yes a neighbor must have turned you in. check the ordinances to see what the permit will cost you.

I hope it isn't too much.

Yeah I am sad. We gave eggs to all our neighbours. We wish they had talked to us how we could make changes to make everyone happy.
Now we are paying extra to the city instead use the resource to possibly make things better for everyone.

It is frustrating. Four chickens are much quieter than the neighbors dog...

If they inspect your place, make them wear booties or clean the bottom of their shoes. Set up a cookie sheet with a towel soaked in pine sol. They could bring in disease from other animals or flocks.
