I went in to Fed Ex on Churn Creek to ask about shipping hatching eggs. They said they couldn't do that but that they could ship dead things and he gave the example of someone wanting to do taxidermy! so, i'm guessing they are ok with your dead chicken, just don't send any fertilized eggs because they are "live". however, I know Cheryl ships eggs via Fed Ex so I am wondering if she doesn't tell them or if she has a special deal with them... hmmm gonna have to ask.

I have heard that some clerks will refuse the shipment of the dead bird.

Just be careful what you tell them and yes, wait until Monday to ship and put in a cold pack.

Fedex flies USPS packages when shipping to places that take more than two days by truck. USPS ships to the Airport. Fedex flies the package to the destination airport. USPS picks up the package and takes it to their distribution warehouse. Closer destinations are shipped the entire way by truck, bouncing and scrambling the eggs all the way.

The second worst eggs for me came from Washington state and never were on a plane.

Quote: we had a hatchery leghorn as one of our first chicken. She was an amazing layer and my kids could walk around the yard with her and she would just hang out... and by kids i mean my 4 and 6 year old, so in that case that one was not flighty at all. but prob because from day 1 she was handled ALL the time. nature vs. nurture....there's at least some positive effect of nurture :)

ok, now i'm competing with you amy beth. done catching up and responding. night all. got home with my new show quality spekled sussex flock from Cheryl and some new rhodebars to grow out to eventually bring in some diversity to my rhodebar flock. fun chicken day!! thanks cheryl for all your help!! safe travels!

from cheryl's website: www.theomeletranch.com

nevermind, it wouldn't let me copy, but says they lay 300 eggs per year. they are definitely not as flighty as other leghorns. once they start laying again after being moved, usually takes a week or so, i'll let you know what i find. they are definitely pretty!
Oh heck yeah then! MF Leghorns it is! They are def prettier than the white ones!

yes, those are still on the keep list.  gonna keep them til spring and probably for sure keep them as part of my breeders. i just got way set back by those predator losses so it'll be a while before I"m producing much.  I'm sure down the road in a few months i may have a hen for you.  Did you end up getting a female from one of the two i sold you?

Yep 1 boy and 1 girl! So thankful you sold me these two. I love em to death!

Hey I just wanted to tell you I found those multi colors zip ties at Wal-Mart. They come I'm assortments of colors and sizes down to 10cm small! Perfect for the newborns. AND I found these really cool neon colored zip ties at the teu value harware store on the 44. Just incase you need more. ;)

my four-week-olds had their first night outdoors in the exclosure pen (with a nesting box to sleep in), and this morning they're all bouncing around and looking fine. such a relief to have them out of the house! and the big girls are giving them stern looks through the wire, but hopefully they'll all get accustomed to each other over the next week or two.
