Hello everybody,
I really like this thread and haven't posted on it before. I'm fairly new to chickens and wondering if anyone within a radius if 150 miles or so of redding breeds Cochins?

Hey! Welcome to the thread Jasperina.

I think "Papabrooder" might breed cochins. But I'm not %100 about that.

Hope to hear from you soon!

hello everyone!
Those Brahmans are beautiful! 3 day express mail, however I would have gone insane.  I'm glad they are doing OK!

La, Your kitten is adorable. makes me almost want one, but I think if i add another animal we may implode here.

Monster, I'm so happy your chickens are doing better! 3 cheers for modern medicine. and gratz on the first egg! it never gets old, I say.

Zoo, good luck with your hennies. I know I said it a million times, but i broke down and did lite  last year, I couldn't stand it! But you have all of October so you should be good. How are the ducks laying?

Capa, I read that  as pigs, not hogs, and thought you meant tiny guinea pigs. Hogs  sound much more exciting! good luck.

Ron< if I had chicken prozac id steal some of it for me!

Pullets no better, and Purples has her eyes mostly closed now,  She finally is pooping from the feedings, looks digested but green and smelly, not good.  I will keep up with the antibiotics, but I don't think she will make it. Happychooks, I didn't think about my shoes, I've been changing every time I go into  see the girls in quarantine, but no idea if I changed my feet or not. Gaa. Everyone else looks fine and looks healthy. but we will see.

And on top of my lovely week, we had a coop break in last night at around 130. It was small and  fast, the coop is right under my window so we  got out there before it got  too bad.  I think it must have been a raccoon  because it undid the latch.  But it looked more like a fox when the dog was chasing it. Know we have both around here.    He pulled a bunch of feathers of my hens and grabbed on of the  young roosters by the neck and dragged it out. I had to kill her and  I took the hen inside for morning inspection ( shes fine)  While I was inside it got the dead chicken and ran off with it.  Id had a stressful day at work, so I MIGHT have  not closed the door all the way, but I'm putting a new latch on anyway today.  we have been debating making an inside coop in the bottom  workroom that opens on to the back yard just so we don't have to haul roosters in and out all the time, I think that might get made after Paso Robles.  The amount of predators around here was insane.

At least for all the drama my losses are low.   Last night could have been SOO much worse, I'm grateful I woke up.

Thanks Chiqita. I was really relieved to see them alive and well when I opened up the box. Hopefully soon we can get these beautiful ladies laying!

Purples didnt make it. Off to Davis on Monday.

Wow. I'm sorry she didn't make it. You tried your best though!
Im interested to see what your results from Davis say.

I am a bit outside of your 150 mile radius but I do breed bantam cochins - working on a calico project. I am in the SF bay area if you are ever down here. I do ship though!

Oh, and welcome to the thread!!!

I'm in Redding! :D Welcome! No Cochins though.

After doing research I think I have determined that these are pecking scabs from his girlfriend. Right? He's not ill. Normal poops, eats and drinks fine, no issues- really incredibly healthy!

I can't insert them anymore. My app for using my cell doesn't work most of the time! ahhh!

OH and we opened not only their crate door but the coop door for the first time to the bantams. They have 100% freedom for the first time since I got them! Their first day. I hope it helps them feel less pecky!

Drought having unfortunate side effects besides prices...
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/711263/u-s-drought-fallout-might-it-affect-all-of-our-ducks I know it's in the duck forum but this is still pertinent to chicken farmers too. Currently the discussion just turned towards someone noting that many of us are experiencing poor laying seasons.
Yep also keep in mind the hot weather coming starting tomorrow. Keep them Chicken's hydrated add vitamins to the water like Save a Chic and add a little unfiltered apple cider vinegar.
