It seems funny to be hatching when BYCrs on the East coast are closing down for the year. They claim that chicks hatching now will never develop correctly because of the snow.

My last hatch of the year will be this week.....ok that is not true since sometime in October I am getting some Blue Egg Layers from the University of Arkansas eggs.

Hello everybody,
I really like this thread and haven't posted on it before. I'm fairly new to chickens and wondering if anyone within a radius if 150 miles or so of redding breeds Cochins?

What do you have now?

There is a person up 80 towards Auburn that has some fancy birds. I can check for you if you do not find someone closer.

It is great to have you join us here.

Coturnix Quail. I have jumbos( gold and pharoah), Texas A &M's and Tibetians ( some f1 tux's) they are nice because they lay at 8 weeks.

How big are your Tuxedo Quail? Strombergs has hatching eggs for black and red but they were listed as being smaller then the Texas A&M.

I will have some Cots one day....

I'm glad that isn't true! Ofcourse we'll never know since it doesn't snow here. I just put 13 silkie eggs in lockdown this morning.

They should hatch on Tuesday. Then I have a staggered hatch with 3 more silkie eggs. They'll lockdown Friday and hatch on Columbus Day..........I hope!

I started out with a lot more, but over half were infertile. Most of these will join my blue/black/splash pen plus I have 6 or 7 white silkie eggs.

I'm pretty sure these will be the last for this year for me......unless we move. Then I'd love to hatch some Partridge Silkies and Lavender or Quail D'Anvers.

I am a bit outside of your 150 mile radius but I do breed bantam cochins - working on a calico project.  I am in the SF bay area if you are ever down here.  I do ship though!

Oh, and welcome to the thread!!!

Thanks so much for replying. I only have a few chickens, and just one Cochin which is more of a pet really, but am interested in adding another next year be because they seem like a very charming breed. I am also interested in speckled Sussex.
