he is getting his rest. hopefully it will make him stronger
So Sad. With the Doctoring you are doing he will be fine. A bit ugly until the next molt....
here is another shot of my young Penedesenca pair. One in the front is the younger rooster though his comb is nowhere the size of Ron's who has the brother.
He does have the boyish face though. larger one in the back is the partridge x wheaten cross with the Mille Fleur pattern coming in
Looking good!

No rooster and really working hard to keep those wooden eggs warm.

Her crop is full. If she stays like this until Wed. I will get her some Trader Joes eggs and move her into a different nest.

goodness, you folks have had a busy weekend while my sister has been visiting (so i've been off-line) -- good job re: all the chicken processing etc!

and my only note about the marriage issue -- one needn't GET married to anyone to enjoy the rural life, either -- i somehow have managed to get my chickens without any husband or spouse at all. so three cheers for managing it however and with whoever it works!

Dinner was good but that white meat was very very chewy. Even a long slow simmer did little to help that. The kids had NO issues eating the chicken. My mil and hubby however- ate it painfully slow and pausing often. Both were scarred over the fact that it was our chicken that they ate. I know it shouldn't but it did hurt my feelings a little because I am the one that did all the butchering and the cooking. I am just bummed they couldn't enjoy it because it was a lot of work on my end. lol

The broth was insanely delicious. I usually have to add some organic chicken bouillon to my chicken dishes. I did not here. It was light and flavorful.

We got the waterer moved to the run. So we can treat the affected mold area. I am thinking to remove the dirt in that area and let it dry out and add fresh dirt from another part of the yard?

Can we pass the week and skip right to next weekend? :D

I'd move her and the wooden egg to the new nest, see if she stays, then get her some trader joe eggs. I haven't had much luck moving broodies. Even over just a foot.

I cook the chicken in my pressure cooker. After dinner, I take the meat off the bones and add the neck and any juice left over and put it back into the pressure cooker along with water to cover. I also add some veggies from the fridge such as a carrot, celery, broccoli stubs and always an onion. That all goes up to pressure for one hour. Add Salt to taste. The next day I make soup and next time, Lardy biscuits.

The pressure cooker braises the meat with moisture so it is very good.

I added Pressure cooker instructions to this recipe:

I'm probably going to *DUH* when you tell me, but what breed is Mimi? Very pretty girl.

Quote:
She is supposed to be a Silver Gray Dorking. The person that sent the eggs to me did not wait long enough between Roos, so two of the chicks are obvious mixes. Mimi looks all SG Dorking and lays the correct color and size of egg. They are known for going broody at the end of the laying cycle. It is too bad because faults could show up from the cross several generations from now so she can't be used for breeding.

She may very well be a good broody though.

Guess what? I might start hatching Quail for the person that my Oldest Daughter works for. She wants to keep 14 Quail at my house and I get to hatch the eggs and keep some of them. What do people charge for things like that?
