Thanks Monsterclucker!
I'm going to c/p this for my own records :)
"PGRanch Welcome to the thread! (Again Lol) you definitely have some Brahmas. The black boy with the white neck looks like a dark Brahma. Maybe a silver laced but probably not if I'm right. I think the brown boy is a partridge Brahma. Blue langshan for sure (I think). Blue Cochin. Buff orpington and a buff orpington/Brahma cross. Those are just my guesses."
By "brown boy" are you referring to the red and green one?

Yep! That one. I'm a little color blind lol

well that makes it easy

It sure does. She better not get too comfortable there Lol!

How's your boy with the haircut doing?

I just looked up Middletown and discovered that it is just over the foothills from Woodland. Of course getting there from Woodland is not a straight trip!

When I get home tonight I will wave a bit north west from my house to you.

Well Hello!

I was actually born in Woodland but I grew up in Sonoma Valley.

Theres been a lot going on here lately. Just finished up all the reading!

Amy Beth betaled congratulations on processing your first chicken!!
I did my first one last month on the 12th. I let him sit for 7 days vacuum sealed in the fridge. He was soo tender!
I have a whole batch of meat birds that I have to process. They are going on 10 weeks. And I've fed them %100 organic chick starter/grower the whole time. And I fermented their feed with organic ACV. I have 16 I think? It's coming up on that time again soon!

Papabrooder congratulations on your first rhodebar and jubilee chicks! Hopefully many more to come!

BigDaddysMom I'm sorry you lost ANOTHER chick! I had some clear and unpresent casualties back a little while ago too. I know its just apart of the game. Hopefully its nothing serious.

Ron your chickens always look so perfect! The feathers just GLEAM! Lol
I need your feed mix man!

Ok now for my news!!!!!!!!!! MAJOR POST-SUMMER CLEAN UP!

This whole week and last weekend has been the biggest cleaning session of my life! Lol
The entire property was cleaned! Yards, pastures, House, Well house, Garage, coops, brooders.... Everything!!!!
I figured now was the time to do it. A friend of mine flew out here from Columbus, Ohio. So I have 2 extra sets of hands thank god! I've still been doing everythingpetty much by myself. She just gets to do the "Enjoyable" things. While I busted my a*s (literally, a few times) shaping up this place.
But it is finally DONE! I can sit down now and honestly not think of anything else to clean.

I'm glad that's done now so all I have to worry about now is making sure my chickens stay healthy and think about future spring projects. I'll save that for another post though.
I did get a very hilarious couple of pictures tonight. One of my Rhode Island Red Layer hens bravely roosted inside of my Barbeque! Lmbo!!
I don't know if this was a joke on me or her but I made her mad laughing soo hard!

Maybe she's protesting the operation of grills and BBQ sauce on a chicken farm Lol
My chickens do not eat soy or corn. I also give them Black Oil Sun Flower Seeds and something green every morning. The eggs are wonderfully rich too.

I hope King Brand Feed will make it up your way some day.

Ron

I just sold a few of my olive eggers and easter eggers. I am rehoming my icelandic's this next week to a buddy who will give me hatching eggs once I move and have more room.
So this will leave me with
1 Blue Ameraucana hen ( she is feisty )
3 white empordanesa
4 crele penedesenca
2 partridge penedesenca ( hen is partridge x wheaten)
I will be getting 2 more crele hens next week

( Deann , Deb) that means I will be making my Placerville - Sebastopol trek then if you want me to transport eggs
This is the lowest amount of Chickens I have had in awhile. At least the feed bill will be lower.
I am hoping to hatch 1 more time before it gets really cold though it is Chilly in the mornings already.
J. nice list of birds. I am looking forward to getting some CP from you down the road. I will check with Deb on the eggs and let you know. OMG... is my bator ever going to be shut off?

You can send dead birds here for necropsy testing. I hope you don't need it, but Debi/PetRock suggested this addition and it's a good one. Thanks Debi and Ron, for the link.

UC DAVIS FEDEX INFO: Their account # is 364343981. If you use their account number you will get to use UC Davis's discount which is up to 70% off. They said that they will bill you for the shipment after you get the report (or at the same time.) Also, FedEx and UPS both ship to the actual lab every day... the Postal Service doesn't.

I'm going to update this link because they've changed their website and the link doesn't take you directly to the form. Since these things usually happen when it's inconvenient to ship them out, here's the link to take you directly to the form for submitting "Backyard" http://www.cahfs.ucdavis.edu/local-assets/pdfs/StandardSubmissionFormFeb-2011.pdf

The fedex thing was weird, had to still have a user ID and PW but was able to use their account for billing but it couldn't find the address and I had to click "use address as is" so I hope it makes it. Anyone else have that issue?

Thank you Ron for getting this posted for me so quickly yesterday, I was so busy when I walked in my store that I left the carcas on the counter. It was bagged and in a plastic bag with another bag of ice but I look over and you can see this little dead chick in there! I grabbed it and put it in the back, hopefully no one noticed it!

Everyone already thinks I'm the crazy chicken lady who owns a wine bar!

I'll take some updated photos of our place. We have only been here for a few weeks but its coming along :) We have a LONG way to go.
Love this girl. My Marans are blue! I've been wanting blue for so long, especially since they're dark brown egg layers. It'll be fun to see what your girl lays.
Just to give you a visual of a blue Langshan, here is a pic of my hen who is no longer with me.

I have a couple of pullets but I need to get some updated pics of them.

She was beautiful.

HILARIOUS! And I'm totally envious of your weekend clean up! I SOOOOOOOOO need to do that!

This is messed up. http://aldf.org/article.php?id=2173 A company passing itself off and free ranging and is clearly not. People paying extra for standard chicken eggs?

That BBQ chicken picture is way too funny. I love it!!
Thanks. That is interesting. That farm is about 15 miles from my house and most stores in our area carry their eggs. It will be interesting to see what happens. I just went to their website and it's down.

Back when I was buying eggs, I tried that brand. They sold it at the Davis Co Op. As soon as I cracked them open I knew they were not Free Range eggs. No Different from regular store eggs in taste or color.

There is a person in Woodland that does sell real free range eggs. She manages the Woodland Farmers Market. Her eggs are like the ones my chickens lay.
