When they come into my yard, how about if I send them to your house? And eat all your plants? I always go to the nursery and ask about plants for deer. They say, you want something deer resistant? And I say no, I want something that will make them choke to death and die!

I agree. They aren't supposed to eat lilac bushes. Tell that to my poor lilac bush. Then they rub their fuzz off their antlers on my fig tree and break the branches.

I'm going through my flock, deciding which will stay and who needs to go. I have a pullet and some hens available. They are good layers and would be fine for someone with a backyard flock. These girls have a defect, like wry tail or side sprigs, so they are not breeding birds. I'll also have a couple chicks available, when the broody is finished with them, that are not the color I want. All birds available are Dorkings, tinted white egg layers.

We keep about an acre watered and landscaped, it would be difficult to keep them all away!

My best friend has a ranch in Placerville. They have tried everything to keep the deer away from their landscape. The deer eat almost every deer proof plant that they have planted. They finally gave up and fenced off a large section of their property. I have been talking to them about chickens for the past 2 years and they have finally started building their coop. They are planning on having around 11 chickens and I told them that there are several BYC people in their area. So, do any of you gold country BYCers have POL pullets for sale???

Speaking of deer...My SO hit a deer on the way to work yesterday. He commutes over Mt St Helena to Rutherford and he drives MY CAR.

Not much damage, just a head light and a fender but he said it was a NICE 3x3 which we never see around here when we go hunting. Of course he hits one on the road.

We feed our dogs raw so all I asked was if he put it in the trunk hahaha

Also, my MIL used cayanne pepper to keep cats from pooping in her yard. She just sprinkles it where they poop.

Meg those pita pintas are soo sick! I live the way their black and white looks kind of like a cow. But real rich looking! I definitely like them a lot.

The contractor came out yesterday and I let him and his worker in to measure a window. After they left, I reached up to redo my hair tie and found a 6 inch feather in my hair! I was so embarrassed! I must have looked like a complete dork!

also, I have a question...I have some 7 week old chicks living outside and one of them is about half the size of the largest one. I'm worried about her and have been thinking about bringing her in to live in the bathroom with the other chicks that are smaller but I think she would be okay. If not, I could always keep her in a separate container. They came from the same place, but are a few weeks apart.

Thoughts?

If the small one is healthy, not being picked on and is getting enough food, it's probably best to leave things be. The pecking order has been started already, and it would be harder to reintegrate later.
