our feed store here started carring Modesto Mills feed, I bought Layer for $30.50 and Scratch for $22.85 for 50 lbs bags. I opened wheb i got home and gave them some. I go out do collect eggs soon. so i will see how they like it. they were eating the scratch when i left the run.
I am to interested in a co op. anything to save $$$ anywhere :)

Kings feed is local. I have been wondering about doing bulk from them. I'm betting you wont get a huge break on the cascade because 1/2 of the cost is going to be gas. And that's going to go up not down. Kings ca is about 2.5 hrs away from here.

My husband has an unlimited gas card, so theoretically we could pick it up at bulk without extra shipping but i guess we would have to rent a trailer to pick up a ton, it wouldn't fit in the SUV. we have been debating it for a while, but I'm too lazy to call so far.

Id be interesting to see how much the cascade is, but I'm guessing t stays close to 30, that would be a bit pricey for us.

What we REALLY need is a local feed mill we can go in on. But I cant find anything.

My birds like the scratch but they don't like the Modesto Milling non-soy layer pellets. They chose eating everything green in my backyard over eating the Modesto Milling feed. I ended up mixing the rest of the bag with King feed so they would eat it. If it was their only food source, I'm sure that they would eat it. I would like to feed them organic, non-soy, non-corn but I decided that it didn't make sense to spend over $30/bag for feed that they didn't want to eat.

I've been looking for a local mill too. Can't seem to find any within 250mi. I could be missing one though.

When I went to the Heirloom expo, Chiquita gave me some hatching eggs. They hatched last week and I have 5 nice little chicks. A couple days ago my 13 year old asked if she could pick up the one that looked like a duck. I said What? You know the one without feathers on the Neck.
