I really like how they worded that for you.  All my reports were very factual with little actual "advice" or suggestion from the person writing it. 

I've been so swamped lately so I haven't been on here in many days.

Had a bad chicken day.  Coon got one I had isolated because it was getting picked on to point of bloody tail feathers.  Bummer was it had just healed enough to get put back in pen today then I found it without the head typical coon or skunk.  Then when I got back later today found a chicken drowned in a bucket of water.  I stick them out as supplement to the auto waterers.  I've seen them fall in before but they always manage to get out, not this one.  So sad.

Looking forward to a better chicken day tomorrow.  Just had more rhodebars, jubilee orps, and my first BLRWs hatch yesterday so that was good news!

Jeff, sorry about the attack! We lost 3 EE chicks and one of my favorite old ladies so we've been trapping raccoons....I think we're up to 5 or 6. Almost every night we put the trap out we get one. Twice we've had the food gone and trap triggered but no raccoon. I think this one's really big and the trap can't close! I'd hate to meet up with this one.

Deb, congrats on the blue egg! Can't wait to see the color!

Well, I finally got the blue Marans out into the grow out pen and I think they're pretty happy! I'm going to leave them in there for about a week before I let them out to meet the rest of the chickens. They can see each other, so that should give them time to acclimate.

I had an animal dig into my coop the other night. They dug though 20 years of packed gravel. I was so afraid to open the door not knowing what I would find. When I opened the door, everyone was fine. Whew. Close one.

From the size of the hole I figure it was a raccoon that dug in. That night, I put a Hava Heart Trap over the hole and in the Morning.... A Skunk.

I guess skunks don't always kill and are likely more interested in the chicken food than the chickens themselves.

Hole is now paved over. Lesson learned.

Oh my, did we ever have wind last night! It woke me up several times and ripped the tarp off that I was using for shade.

New recipe I tried and my kids love it (so do the grown ups). I want to try it next with some of my fresh chicken that I pressure cook first. I bet it is wonderful with shredded chicken! I'll let you know next week maybe. I am processing a few chickens this week. I bought a 23 quart pressure cooker and I am excited to have a nice large pot for those big gigantic BCM roos - for both their hot water bath and their cook in the pressure cooker part of it. I should be able to fit 2 chickens in at once time. Score!


Preheat oven to 350

1 lb ground beef or turkey
1/2 medium onion, chopped (optional. dried minced is ok too)
1/2 bell pepper, diced (optional)
garlic (fresh or granulated) to taste
1/2 cup favorite salsa
1 can favorite refried beans (or homemade)
2 cups jack cheese or pepper jack if you like spicy
burrito sized flour tortillas

toppings:
shredded lettuce
sour cream
salsa
green onion

Directions:

Brown beef with onion, garlic and pepper. Cook until veggies are soft. Add salsa and simmer uncovered until most liquid is absorbed. Set aside.

Warm together refried beans and cheese. Set aside.

To assemble:

Tortilla - fill with bean cheese mix, then sprinkle beef or turkey mix. Roll up tightly. Place seamside down on a greased baking pan. (I use the 9x13 Pyrex ones) I can get at least 8 if I am easy with the filling.

Bake for about 30 minutes until hot but do not let the flour tortillas get very brown.

Serve with toppings.

Huge hit with my kids and didn't take me long to prep. You could health it up by using wheat tortillas but it will change the flavor profile. I am sure you can use other meats though- like cooked shredded chicken.
