Bit of an update on the dog that killed my 5 chickens...

Today was a strange day. Gunner was barking at the back door and I thought it was the workers that were scheduled to come over so I went to investigate. I saw 2 shady MOFOs standing in my pasture, by my goats. So I walk out there and ask what was going on. They said they were looking for their dog and that they didn't want it to "get my goats". Well I said "thank you very much but I can take care of your dog if it gets my goats so please get off my property". They asked "well can we walk to the front of your property to go on the street". I said "I don't care what you do, just get off my land". So I stand there and wait for them to move, they turn tail and jump the fence between us and the nice neighbor and then use his property to walk to the street.

Now if these people had come to my door to warn me that their dog was loose, I would have probably helped them look for it, but you don't just hop my fence and stand in my pasture. That ticked me off.

So I grab my .45 and set it by the back door and call AC. Report the loose dog.

Workers show up so I have to talk to them for a bit, I warn them of the loose dog, not knowing if its human friendly or not.

So a few minutes go by, I didnt' have to be at work so I kept an eye out for the dog and those 2 guys. I see them walking up and down the road, calling the dogs name. I watched them run up another neighbors field and along side their fence calling the dogs name, it seemed as if they had spotted the dog and were swearing at it. Then I saw them walk back, and then down the road again saying something about how the dog got out and whos fault it is.

So I'm just on my front step watching all of this. I go inside to check my dogs and then I see the AC officer pull up in my driveway and jump out. I of course run to the door because this guy has been here twice already because I call about loose dogs.

He runs up all excited and says "Come see what I have in my truck!". So I follow him out and he opens the door. There is that darn husky dog from down the street! The SAME DOG that got my birds! Apparently it got our neighbors birds from across the street. So now the owner was contacted and he is "out of town". He says he will pay the fines but I'm hoping he doesn't want to show his face and this beautiful dog can go to a rescue and find a home more suitable.

I may not get reimbursed but YAY they got the dog!

You have a nice AC officer. He must understand how serious it is for that dog to be killing chickens in your area. It was good of him to tell you he got the dog.. So sorry you and your neighbors lost chickens. I worry everyday that I'll loose mine to a stray dog. We have a lady down the street that collects strays and hoards them. I can hear them barking all the time in the distance....sounds like the inside of a crowded dog shelter. So sad they have to live in that situation. Other neighbors run hunting strings of pig, bear and coon hounds. I here them baying too. I hope none ever find their way to my place. My goal this winter is to learn how to shoot a 22.

Your Welcome!

When the chicks hatch, It's like Christmas Morning to a Kid.
I sent a PM a couple of Months ago. It got lost?
Yeah, go Chickies!

Some of those eggs are so big. I hope they hatch! Penes are known for not hatching well but if they lay eggs as nice as these they will be worth it.

He is a super great guy. I think we are good friends now :) I am probably going to send him a thank you card because I am SO grateful!

The dog is a gorgeous dog, just has a bad owner. The AC said the dog would go to a husky rescue if the owner does not bail him out. I hope the dog gets a second chance.

I just candled the eggs I am hatching for Papa Brooder and they are doing very well!

All of the Silkie, Rhodebar and Swedish Flower Hens are developing. 1 or 2 of the Cream Legbars are duds. The EEs are all developing. The only breed not developing are the ones with a J on them. I do not know what they are though....I guess Jubilee Orpington? I hope it is just early for those. At least no blood rings in the Js.
