So I am mentally at a happy place to get rid of our favorite BCM cockerel, Samson. He has long been a family 'fave'. But we decided to go rid of him. I am craigslisting him soon. Hoping to see some more feathering on him to help make him look more impressive. And we are keeping our last remaining Buff Orp cockerel to cover my Buff ladies. I have a black barnyard mix cockerel and 2 other bcm cockerels to cull. However. One cockerel is so darn adorable. He is our Charlotte. Well mine. I'll be darned if he doesn't behave like a PET. Whenever he sees me, he runs up to me and whenever I walk around the yard (I could walk well over a 100 feet away from his usual spots) and that sucker follows me around like a dog purring. Purring. What kind of a chicken is he? I do not hang out with the extra cockerels. I give them their food and that's pretty much that. They do get to free range while they wait to meet their uhh maker. lol Even my husband saw him doing this and was laughing and remarking how funny that was. I can tell he is behind me by the odd purring noise he makes- I don't even have to see him to know it's him. None of the other chickens or roosters do this. Just him. Has anyone ever kept a 'pet' rooster just because they had so much personality? I don't think I can kill this one. The others no problem but this one is funny. :|
Great pics and awesome looking flock!goodness, lots going on out there in this amazing weather! it was an unexpected day for me in ChickenLand -- posted some photos of what i thought were my two Cream Legbars to the CL thread here on BYC this morning:

amelia
but someone on the list thought amelia didn't look like a CL -- so I pm'd Deann, who i got her from as a day-old chick, and she agreed -- much more likely to be one of her CL/penedensca crosses (trying to make an olive-egger!) who got mixed up in the hatch. i suppose that explains why these two look fairly different!
but Deann was INCREDIBLY kind and generous and offered a CL pullet of the same age as a replacement -- plus I bought an extra basque pullet from her, so the new CL wouldn't be lonely as she integrates into my flock. so funny, that i just sold Baby the basque cockerel on friday, along with the isbar cockerel, and now two days later they're unexpectedly replaced by two pullets! SO wonderfully delighted -- here are the new girls:

the new CL, amazingly friendly and sweet -- I'm thinking of calling her Lucy Two, in honor of my sweet delaware pullet who passed away earlier this summer
![]()
and the new basque pullet, on the left, sizing up her likely sibling/cousin eleanor (who came from the same breeder) -- I think she'll be called maggie
![]()
all of the younger flock together -- two basques, two CLs, and the CL/penedensca mix

the big girls are not entirely welcoming to the newcomers, so i've put them in a separate enclosure for a few days at least...

and finally, the big girls enjoying the warm weather by roaming far and wide!
thank you Deann!! the new birds are so lovely!!!
We finally settled on a spot to build it. Not to finalize our plan and start collecting materials (can you say pricey?? wow!).You are welcome!!!! I felt bad I gave you the wrong chick but glad it all worked out in the end. I no longer hatched the olive egger and pure CL together as they are impossible to tell apart as chicks. The olive egger should give you lots are super nice olive eggs.goodness, lots going on out there in this amazing weather! it was an unexpected day for me in ChickenLand -- posted some photos of what i thought were my two Cream Legbars to the CL thread here on BYC this morning:

I am already excited for Spring!
Amelia is amazing. She is A Crele Penedesenca x Cream Legbar cross. Classic Penedesenca tail and form. Lovely. Deann mentioned the chicks look just like legbar chicks.
You should get a Green or Olive egg. She should be alert like a penedesenca and very active. Congrats
you have some amazing looking Chickens there.
Gosh I wish our Spring weather was just all year round. haha!Ya, we've been excited for Spring since the first day it rained, was cold, and got dark before 7:00 pm (we're not big fans of Fall / Winter)Good thing we live in such a temporate climate... my wife and I are sissys when it comes to cold!![]()

I LOVE the way she looks. I also know nothing about either CL or Penes but I love her colors, feathering and body shape. If she tosses out olive eggs I am officially flat out jealous. LOLwell, now someone else from the Cream Legbar thread has sent me a private message, he actually thinks she IS a pure CL and not a cross -- I of course know absolutely nothing about penedesencas, nor about any of the genetics behind the various traits (he noticed that Amelia has yellow shanks, which apparently penedesencas don't have) -- so i'm just going to keep an eye on her and see whether she ends up laying blue or olive eggs!
and Deann, if you see this -- if she turns out to be a CL after all, I certainly would want to pay for the extra one today, it's been such an odd mix-up!
