Ok here is her brother from the same hatch.

He has stray feathers on his legs. I don't think she had any Black Orp hens. I think she was using him with her lavender ones...does that make sense? I don't breed so I don't get all this genetic stuff. Maybe she did have black orp hens but I swear I thought she was using them with different Orps. As I said I could have it all wrong - it's been months.

You have Franken Chickens!

They should be great as Barn Yard Chickens. Since you are not going to breed them, They are perfect.

I got her from the same place I got all my Buff Orps and my FBCMs. She said her Black Orp roo covered her Marans hens- I *thought* she had said he had gotten in with them but so I don't think it was on purpose. She needed to get rid of them and I just bought some more chicks so these guys were a bonus.
Yep, she looks pure orp to me too.

wow, feathered shanks are the give away on the boy, perhaps the sister is maran X after all. So funny. she looks totally orp.

I didn't mean to be rude. I'm having some rough things to deal with here, so I'm snapping at people and being more argumentative. Sorry.

That said... I know some people don't like soy. My birds suffered without it and I can't find an affordable alternative. Why would my sow's fertility and litter sizes be much better, on a diet including Calf Manna, than all the others who are on non soy diets- if soy caused hormonal issues?

I'm trying to avoid petroleum products as much as possible in food & personal care products. That ultra Kibble has mineral oil in it- a petroleum product. That's why I don't use it.

I always have sort of different ways of looking at things.

Cheryl, I am doing a type of integrated farming here- crops & animals together.

haha 2 franken chickens. I decided to actually name the remaining black pullet. Out of 4 black pullets (2 mixes and 2 marans) she is the last one standing. Black Betty it is. I really do like her. She is fluffy like the Buffs. All the cockerels in that above picture are off to freezer camp as soon as I have a few hours of time in one chunk to take care of it. I have 4 left- but I want to hang on to the Buff Orp cockerel.

I respect that we all have different ways of doing things. I have friends that won't use Ivermectin on their chickens but would rather monthly dust their chickens with that 7 stuff. Some don't do soy, some don't do petrolatum products, some use all organic all natural all the time for everything. We all do what works for us and what we feel comfortable with. I personally didn't feel anyone was rude but I also have to drink tea instead of coffee in the morning so my caffeine levels are a tad low. haha! I miss stuff when I am not feeling my A game.
