Oh la la Instagram has a new web format. I still cannot get Tapatalk to work with BYC. I have a half dozen other forums I visit and no issues. Only have issues with BYC. I just cannot even see the forums let alone post.

I wanted to show you guys my black pullet. Can you tell me if she looks like the marans/black orp mix or if she looks like a full marans?
http://instagram.com/amymcmaster If you look through like the first 6 photos of my chickens you can see her. She is REALLY big and fluffy like an Orp. She is about 22 weeks old and is almost as full (feathers) as my 32 weekers and bigger (taller and frame size) than her full Buff Orp sisters that are the same age. Even if she is a mix- I have a sweet spot for that girl.

What do you think? Mix? If that is what a pullet mix of Black Orp/Marans looks like- I want some more lol.
She looks more Orp like. Could be a mix, could be pure.
Quote: Yep, the feathers on the shanks give him away as a mix. He looks more Orp like too.

It could have been the Meteor shower. Early morning is the best time to see them. I think Thursday is the best day, but there should be about 10 an hour with some of them being big fireballs. Of course out in Guinda it could have been anything. Maybe a fox hit the electric fence? Have you found any more Weasels out there? If it was a predator the dog probably would have barked.

I have to make sure the boys do not crow when Animal Control is having lunch at the Park.
Are you confessing that you still have roosters?

Don't worry -I'm not saying nothin'!
Definitely keeping this into consideration for our new coop. I am thinking to have my husband build one of these underneath the roost/poop board. It would be perfect for broodies or even new young chickens that need to be introduced. Thank you- great idea!

I am trying to be patient with all of this. I know building the flock you want takes time.
I'm keeping Buffy's broody area under the poop board like you mentioned in your post. It really kept the other hens from laying extra eggs in her nest during incubation. Once the chicks hatched, and Buffy wanted to get out, I removed the screen so she and her babies could come and go as they want. I think it's so precious that she takes the chicks "home" to bed about an hour earlier than the other chickens start heading for the coop. It has been the best use of space for us.

Speaking of lavender marans, sorry if I posted this already, but I think they have turned out so pretty! babies due in 2 weeks from their first set of eggs!

Oh my goodness! They are gorgeous. I need to stop looking at the picture because I'm going to want another breed.

Jussst in case something happens to my Buff Orp rooster- does anyone else here keep them? If something happens to him before I get a hatch from my big hens- I won't have a rooster to cover them to give me offspring. My 4 big ones are of a different line than my 3 younger pullets and so far I am really loving those 4 big ones. Seems like they are extra big and fluffier than the younger ones. I want to get at least ONE hatch from them. Do breeders generally have extra roosters to sell? I 'could' ask the breeder I get my Buffs from if she does. They are not listed on her site though. You can now only get chicks from her, not evening hatching eggs. :( I'm so sad! lol

Love it! I will for sure do this. Seems like such a good use of space!
