Molly those Breese are beautiful! I have 10 of them coming this spring. I'm soo excited about them!
I'm going to build a special Breese coop out in my pasture and try to stick to the French way of raising them.

Ron your RIR are crazy rich! They LOOK old fashioned. And your EOd are gorgeous!

I am having another rarebreedauction addiction takeover again.

I still havemt received my palomino Brahma pair I won last month. I'm afraid to ask for a refund fearing I might never Herat from the people again. I did get another email with another shipping excuse. Well we will wait and see
I am also bidding on a pair of Partridge Orpingtons from greenfire farms I am SUPER excited about! AND I also have the highest bid in for a pair of bielefelders from GFF!!

I just hope it dosent go to high. Already over $1000! BUT I HAVE TO HAVE THEM!

He called me on the phone when he got to the feed-store. And, I "walked" him through the store, directly to the exact shelf where the scratch was!!

For us, it is more of a matter of his willingness to do something for my chickens. I think the only reason he was willing is that he literally drives right past the feed store on his way home. I told him, "you don't have to stop if you don't want to, but I'll have to drive over there myself and use extra gas money!"

I'm rotten aren't I?

My husband stops at Scotts Valley Feed to pick up Kings Feed about twice a month on his way home from his work week in Santa Cruz. He is willing to do it for me because he loves me not because he loves my chickens!

I do always call ahead and charge my purchases over the phone. It has worked well except for one time that they gave me Show n Grow instead of layer pellets. DH doesn't check the bags just takes what they give him. The last time the workers loaded my feed into someone else's car. Good thing DH caught the mistake before the person took off!

Ron very pretty RIR - WOW

now I'm starting to feel like a grandmother of chickens
Sarah - mycutekitties has my coronation sussex & tolbunts
Shannon - dieflyranch has my silver penciled plymouth rocks
Papa Brooder has my speckled sussex, rhodebars
Karen-anderago farms has my rhodebars, speckled sussex
and many people are working with me on my mille fleur leghorns

This is REALLY FUN!!
Between rehoming chickens hatching for others I am feeling like that too! The two EEs I re homed to Zooweemama's place have made it into the Calendar!

It's funny, I posted the RIRs to the Heritage RIR page and have not had a reply yet. I posted the Australorp photo that thread and already got a critique on her from Geoff, an Australian. He liked her which just proves that you can get good BAs from Cackle Hatchery

Good luck on the Auction!

I think that it would be interesting to divide a group of birds that is intended for meat and raise half of them on processed feed and the other half as close to the French method as possible. I know that the French keep their exact methods a secret (at least I haven't found out the exact details) but the birds do spend a certain amount of weeks free ranging and then are finished off in cages with a special diet that includes milk. I wonder how much difference it would make with the taste of the meat?! I love research and experimenting! It must be my biology background coming out!

I got my barred rocks and my buff brahmas from cackle. The barred rocks are beautiful. James Meeks sent me a picture of his Heritage BR and the barring on the BR I got from cackle is pretty similar to Meeks heritage BR.
The brahmas I'm not so impressed with. They are really slow growing, more so than my other brahmas.
Ill probably sell them as juvies later on.

Are you getting the breese from greenfire? Are they the only ones that have them?
Wow I've seen those rarebreed auctions they are super high!! good luck

They are gorgeous...or you could also bid on my gold partridge brahmas!! :)

It is 8:09 in the morning and now I want chicken dinner...

One of the old time premier meat birds was the Dorking Rock. I actually have a couple of those. They do grow fast--not like a cornish rock but already they are getting a lot of breast meat. I am excited about eating them. Not so much about processing them. I hope to be able to get them to the processor along with Papa Brooder's Birds that he will be processing in a about 6 weeks.
I won't be processing these Birds. They are my breeding stock. These are the only two I have. Looking forward to hatching some...Then...
