Oooohh!!! BigB- he is kind of like a spangled, with that deep mahogany hackle, which is another of my favorite patterns!!!
Joey has a handsome little tri color mottled roo that he's teasing me with!! Ya'll are going to be the death of me with these gorgeous birds!
I need to give a lot of thought to where I want to go with breeding. I'd like to expand to 3 nice pairs by springtime, and then see where it goes from there. Since I'm limited in space, I need to be very selective. I won't be using my pullet Hedwig for breeding again, unless she throws some above average babies. She's more of my pet than anything else, but she's my only layer to date. I think my mottled roo has potential, he's still young, and will hopefully fill out some more in the next few months. He seems to be a bit slow to mature. Possibly one of those that will come into his own after his first birthday?? Or maybe that's wishful thinking!!
My new white pullet from Cara is cute and typey. I'm hoping to breed her to my mottled roo when she matures. So that's pair #1, ...
Now to think about #2 & #3!!
Ken, thank you for the invite. I sincerely appreciate your hospitality! I will probably miss out on this hatch, just because I'm so slow to make up my mind on anything, and it sounds like your babies get snatched up quickly! But I look forward to pics of your new birds, and babies. You have some new exciting blood in your lines!!
There are a lot of really great people here in CA, doing their best to breed some extraordinary birds to compete with the legends of the east coast. We all have the same objective, and some have more knowledge and experience than others. Some have great stock to start with, others have a longer journey to perfection. It feels good when we are all supporting each other, offering (and accepting)
constructive criticism when solicited, and giving
respect and
encouragement to one another. How about we honor this thread with a new tone, and some solidarity amongst the few of us in this great state? Let's embrace one another as one team, rather than shoot each other down, because really, the last man standing really doesn't win
anything.
