My brooder has become a MOSH PIT!!!.... My chicks are out of control!
Babies are 2-1/2 weeks old now, I had them on paper towels their first week, then sand for week 2, but I ran out of sand today, and couldn't get to the store. There was no way to strain out the chick starter from the existing sand, so I dumped it and put some shavings in there for them. My gosh! Its like crack for chicks! I've never seen them act so wild before! I actually had to give them all a "lights out" so they would pile up and calm down!
Joey- like I posted above, I used paper towels, then sand for my chicks. Its only my teeny tiny one that is getting pasty. I just am assuming that his/her small size is just going to require some extra TLC.
Out of curiosity.... I weighed my Jumbo pullet today.... 23 oz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now... just to expel any criticisms.... I did not "buy" this bird. I took her home as a PQ serama with a sweet disposition, and she's turned out to be just that.
I was just amazed at how heavy she was!
Bill, she came from the same place as your hen-a-bator. I hope she will prove to be a good broody like yours!
i was amazed at my broody though i mean to be in hen cage 1 day lay 1 egg and then go broody and set...... she is a special broody ugly as all get out but she has earned a place here and i spoil her more than the rest ....its funny
23oz holy crap thats like seramazilla..... but im glad you have her..... count down to hatch this weekend 4 days OMG im just to excited lol..... although if they dont hatch im gonna be so SAD.
broody eggs are due not htis saturday but the next im expecting 2 from her...and i should have more eggs to toss under her and do the switch a roo like cara suggested.
Bill, I have 2- one of mine, and one of Cara's due this weekend too, both under Hedwig. I'll go strip my pluot tree, and make some more jam for all of us. Jam making brought me good luck last hatching day.
Chaili - I have a roo that is 24.something ozs! He was one of the very first 3 seramas I ever had and was also bought as PQ (2 1/2 yrs ago) before I got so much into them. I don't plan on keeping mine though, he has no purpose and I don't breed him. He is really pretty, sweet, and decent type though. I figure someone might want him, I'm giving him away. If anyone knows anyone that might like to have him let me know!
Oh and OMG, pluots are my most favorite fruit. I'd love to buy some from you.
***And... one of my silver-laced OEGB roos got to my silkie hen and I now have 2 oegb-silkie mutts! lolol those are going to be rediculous! I will be giving those away too. They sure are cute though - funny little things.
Tomorrow I'll go check and see what the squirrels haven't pillaged. They took all the fruit off my 'Flavor Grenade' Pluot. All I got was 3!! The one ripening right now is a 'Dapple Dandy'. If I'm not fast enough, they'll take the whole crop!
oh i hope it works chaili.....and jam sounds good i havent had homeade before....love my mom but dont tell her i said her cooking isnt the greatest all the time (run for life to hide)
