Cara, you know whats really cool, now that I have this fancy "bionic ear" [cochlear implant] I can actually HEAR the fuzzy-butts chirping and peeping. It is up there with one of THE most important sounds that I can hear now.......

That is so awesome Sue, what a miracle of modern medicine. Tiny sounds like the chirping of chicks are things that should not be missed.

Did you experience hearing loss at a certain age? or has it been a lifelong disability?

I had a severe case of the mumps when I was a kid and the high fever/virus is what caused the hearing loss....It has been progressive over the last 50 years to the point where I was officially deaf in my left ear and have only about 5% left in the right. I was approved for the implant in Dec. of 2010 and got the "do-dad" in January 2011. NOW I have to learn how to hear all over again.........sounds I have not heard for over 30 years AND new sounds like peeping! SO COOL......But I gotta tell you, how do all you hearing people stand all this ambient noise in the world???

P.S. My sister has been losing her hearing too........some things are NOT meant to be shared with your sister.....

I am on day 18ish of my one lonely eggie.......my nails are chewed down to the quick already.......

HOW do you guys stand this anticipation?????
