Woohoo! We got our first egg today!

I've been waiting eagerly for weeks as she exhibited all the signs: red comb & wattles, squatting and 2-finger-wide pelvic bones (though my fingers are a small). My BR, named Barred-Rock Obama, is about 20 weeks old and had been acting extra weird the last two days, searching for a nesting spot. She didn't go for the nest box in the coop, though she made a mess digging though it. Instead, she chose to lay in one of her favorite spots...under our persimmon tree. It's a wee egg, but it looks great and has a good shell.

Barred-Rock Obama investigating her egg with the flock:

I'm so happy for you!!! It's a pretty color, too. That pic of them all inspecting it is adorable. Are you going to try to get her to lay in the nesting boxes?
Ours are almost 18 weeks, and none of them are showing the signs that Barred-Rock was showing for so long.

Thanks! I hope she lays in the nesting box today. If she doesn't, then we'll keep her locked up until she lays. I definitely don't want her finding her own spot since our backyard is large and there's also a chance that she'll lay on the slope. I definitely don't want to hike up the steep slope searching for eggs!

Your white rock looks like she'll be your first egg layer.

I agree. The hubs and I have bets going; I think it will be white rock, partridge rock, Easter egger, barred rock, welsummer (notoriously slow to mature).

From the Crazy H-Bar Ranch; Oct. 11, 2014 Norco meet up.
"There is no room at the Inn", said the Innkeeper. But here at the ranch, the manger is also full. So I need to reduce my numbers, thusly; 2 Buff Orpingtons (laying) $20 each. 12 mos old.

2 Black Sex Links (laying) $20 each. 12 mos old.

4 Orp/ Jersey mixed (laying) $20 each. 8 mos old.

These 2 lighter colored Jersey/Orps have been claimed for now. Thank you.

1 BLRW Splash Rooster (not laying) To good home. 6 mos.

1 Frizzle Bantam Cochin Rooster (not laying) To good home. 8 mos old?

Let me know if you have questions.
I also have some tires for your runs or gardens. I use them for dust bath bowls, water troughs, and garden boxes. They add a nice touch to the gardens. If you would like to buy some let me know so I can stock up!

The tires really seem to hold the water inside from evaporating.

Here are recent pictures of sweet Zuri. He is an Orpington. Very social and tame. About 4 months old. The first 3 pictures are from within the last week. The 4th picture is about a month ago. He is still growing and getting more beautiful every day. He is not overly aggressive - and likes to sit in your lap to eat out of your hands.
