WelcomeHey all! New to the group, in Camarillo, Ventura County!
Water bottles with frozen water are also a good way for them to stay cool! They will stand and lay against them to cool off.Hello everyone, so this week is a scorcher here in So. Cal. I'm in Jurupa Valley. What are you guys doing to keep your chickens cool?
I set up a string of misters on the run. It has lowered the air temperature by almost 10 degrees. Plus, I have noticed a few of my chickens just stand and let the mist get on them.
Some cuteness overload that makes me smile. After losing two Breda juveniles and a sweet 6-yr-old Silkie this month, I hurriedly got 3 Dominique chicks from Wes's Pets & Feed in El Monte before "chick season" is over. Doms are very much like Breda in calmness, outgoing curiosity, unafraid, and people-friendly plus they are lightweight like the Breda.
These are the 3 itty-bitty baby Doms brought home Aug 4th:

These are the Dom girls now, running/flying around, growing juvenile barring, and taking dust baths in their grit dish!

Great idea!!! It has been so HOT!!! We have been getting thunderstorms up here so temps are finally off..but my girls HATE the thunder...poor babies! We'Re a little late to the party, but we finally set up misters for all the pens. The girls like the mud more the the cool mist. They get wet then roll in dry dirt to make their own mud. I wish we had done this sooner!!!!
