He hasn't been aggressive with any one of the flock except her... I made a promise that he would not become soup.... while we had him... You never know what people have or what people will do to help others unless you ask... I'm looking for hens that are the same age as my flock so we don't have integration issues.
i think phage is trying to say your expectations of trading him for a couple of hens may be a little high.

I have 40 cross bred roos waiting to become soup. they arent good for much else unfortunately.

Just a suggestion.... if the roo belongs to your granddaughter why don't you rather rehome the hen he has issues with? Especially as the roo only has problems with the one hen? Then everyone is happy :)
One other thought.... If Chris is 20 weeks and that is a recent picture are you sure he is a he? He does not have much comb/wattle development for a 20 week roo.

I agree with Phage, does look like a hen. Is there crowing? IF it is a girl, then she might just be trying to be top dog. You could try the water squirt bottle trick on her OR like suggested...rehome the girl this one is picking on. AND OF COURSE if you bring this one to the meet, maybe all our collective heads can figure out if it is indeed a hen or roo.. :)

I wish He was a she, then I would keep it. But He is loud and proud of his boyhood. He is going because the victim, Martha is my first and best layer. He is the odd man out as we didn't plan on 3 roo's. And when I bought the 5 that he was in I was told that it was a hen. I know better, now. I have watched the pecking order process, but this was brutal and now Martha looks like scarface. Just hoping someone would want him. Either way, he is going and I'm still looking for 2 more pullets. I will be there on Saturday.

Hi All! Im in San Diego, we live in the city (Normal Heights) but have a good sized lot. Our 3 girls are in the coop run during the week, but get to free range on the weekends in the backyard. We love having them, they are so much fun, that was really unexpected. Question for San Diego peeps (ha!) - are the girls war enough in the coop at night? Or do you do some kind of heating? This will be their first winter, they are about 7 months old now. Thanks in advance for the advice!

It is the 3rd winter for my chickens. They free range during the day and go to the coup/cage at night to sleep either on a perch or in the nest boxes. I just cover the coup with waterproof tarps to keep out the rain and the draft.
