Sorry Kind folks that were welcoming me to this group. I was in the hospital for 6 days.

I really don't know much about chickens. I guess we want friendly ones that like to interact with humans. We want laying ones. How old are they then?

Where do I go to find out what supplies are needed to have chickens?

Hi Melissa and welcome to the chicken world, I hope you are doing fine.
Well if you do not know anything about chickens you came to the right place to learn all about them.
For starters if friendly and good laying hens is what you want, there are many breeds that meet that criteria. For example you have Plymouth Rocks, Orpingtons, Easter Eggers, Wyandottes, brahamas, and some black sex links to name a few. Now those would be breeds who meet your criteria of being friendly and good egg layers at the same time, however if you want a chicken who you wanna be able to pet grab and pick up, you are probably gonna have to start with chicks and get them used to be handled since chicks that way when they get older they know you mean no harm to them.
you might wanna take a look at this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/advice-for-first-time-chicken-owners it will help you in knowing what supplies and what else do you need to start your backyard flock.
If you have any questions shoot me a message or just ask here in the forum, as there is always somebody willing to help. We are passionate about our chickens and we wanna help you become passionate about yours too!
Good Luck!

I've been looking around, seems like nobody wants to let go of their full grown hens at this time.

I have a friend who is looking to downsize her flock...you might be able to pick them up..she is kinda far from you though. so if you're willing to drive PM me your cell and I can send it to her. she has lots of nice chickens, good layers etc but she isn't able to drive a lot right now.

Oh yeah sorry I didn't see it at first. Well it looks like a nice coop and I don't really think its that bad of a price.
I have one similar to that, it fits perfectly on my garden boxes, it's very portable and well built. I also use it for integrating the young or the new girls.... Heck at that price....maybe 2...
