It might help to know more of a city your looking in. Based on your pic, I'm in Acton and might be close to you ;)

I want to be able to rake the yard part and I was thinking if I put 2x2's in the yard it would be difficult to rake around. Hmmm? Would just having a roosting area in the coop part be enough?
Puting one outside will allow you to rake under it and it will give them something to perch on while they are out and provide exercise. Inside the coop is a must for roosting.

Does anyone know where a teacher could get fertile hatching eggs? A kindergarten teacher at my son's school asked me yesterday and I have no idea where to get them locally as I always get them shipped from BYC members. Any ideas would be appreciated, we are in the Los Angeles area.
Hi, I think I responded to your post on meet-ups.
I provide hatching eggs to schools and other breeders, I'm in Palos Verdes.

It is so hot today, what does everyone do to keep their chickens cool?
I give mine little hats and sunglasses...

It really hard to get that white sunblock stuff put on their beaks (always jumping around) The stuck up girls carry lil umbrellas.

In the afternoon we all get snow cones and
run through the sprinklers in our underwear..

If any of them complain.... I show them a box of McD's McNuggets and tell them to suck it up...

Hmm and the heat hasn't even started. I noticed it too. I am needing to supply more shade. I have heard of people giving their chickens a big ice block in their water. Mine are all walking around with their mouths open. Lots of water available.

Craigslist is a great place to look. I know of a few breeders in the Riverside area. Also on Facebook there is a group California Poultry People that is very helpful too. For my son's class hatch I bought the eggs from a couple breeds I knew lots of people would be interested in and when the class was done observing their chicks I took the chicks home and sold most of them at the last meetup. :)

Do you happen to know what breeds the breeders have? I would like to get a couple more. Thanks.
