Ok, now it's my turn to ask for help!

I need to deworm my flock and treat for possible coccidiosis. Question; will an 8 week old chick get coccidiosis while on medicated feed?
Anyway, I'm looking for a OTC dewormer where I don't have to throw away the eggs if possible.

I know I could thumb through all the BYC pages, but I have a busy life and I know I can count on my friends. Thanks everyone.

I PM'd you with a message which I also sent to another blogger so hope it answers your questions.

I can't imagine a chick getting coccidiosis on medicated chick feed. Are you seeing symptoms? I wouldn't worm chicks unless you are getting some symptoms.

Thanks. It was an interesting read and I will keep this for a while.

Medicated feed allows the bird to build up resistance to cocci and by 8 weeks they are normally pretty tough.

What are the symptoms?
stumbling and lack of balance. Wasn't standing for too long. I didn't expect to see her alive this morning. But she was up with the rest, eating and drinking. Still off balance and a little slow but throughout the day she appeared a little better. Starting deworming all of them and cleaned out their run.

hopefully they will get better

sometimes it can also be trace element malnutrition.

How is the fertiltiy in your eggs?
Do they free range? If not a boost of a vitamin and mineral supplement may help. A couple of tablets of selenium and b vitamins ground and mixed into their feed may help also in addition to a multi vit boost..

I would also be watching for Mareks - 8 weeks is young to show symptoms - it normally right around when they are POL. Still watch for it though.

If a bird dies - send it of for necrotopsy.
