Howdy! I live in Huntington Beach. I have had GREAT experiences both at Midway City Feed and at the feed place on Newport Blvd in Costa Mesa. If you live in the area, they are both great. I know Midway City sells chicks, I bought mine there. They get day olds in on Wednesdays at noon with 95% guarantee on females. I don't know if Newport Blvd place sells chicks, but the staff is super friendly and very helpful (more personable if that's what you require). Just chiming in for feed stores in my area.

What hatchery does Midway get their chicks from? My feed store in my area uses Privett Hatchery and the assortments are good. If I let the feed store know in advance they will place my breed preference in their next Privett order.

I have no idea. He said right now they get barred rocks, buff orps, WEs and I can't remember the other. He said he gets the rarer breeds in the spring. Where is your feed store?

I have 2 feed stores I frequent. One is San Dimas Bird and Feed and the other is Wes's Pets and Feed.

The San Dimas store is more of a pet bird store like lovebirds, budgies, etc, and only occasionally have customers bring in their chicks for sale - whatever the owner brings in. For layer pellets and chicken health supplies I go to San Dimas.

However Wes's in El Monte gets actual Privett Hatchery chicks in a wide assortment - sexlinks, hybrids, layers, dual-purpose, bantams, etc. Whatever Privett Hatchery website has available is what he orders from. San Dimas is more of a feed and supplies store for farm animals, while Wes has a lot of chicks in brooders and juveniles, and sometimes his back room has several cages of beautiful adult roosters. He had a private breeder bring in about 10 juvenile Silkies where the cockerels and pullets are identifiable and that's where I bought my juvie Silkie pullet. Most feed stores only order assortment breed chicks once in the Spring but Wes orders chicks from Spring into early Fall so he always has chickens available in-store.

For supplies I go to San Dimas and for chicks I go to Wes. There's another feed store in Whittier but I never went there and don't remember its name.

There's a store near us called Pet Palace in Covina where it's an actual pet store with fish, reptiles, etc but the owner has chickens and occasionally he sells juvenile pullets in his store but usually only RIRs or BRs - I go to him whenever I need nesting straw or Oyster Shell.

Ultra rare breeds will not be available in feed store hatchery orders. I had to go directly to private breeders when I was looking for APA Ameraucanas (not EEs) and rare Breda.

I go to kruse feed in la habra, and occasionally go to Wes's to see what he's got in store. Kruse sells chicks at 3 or 4$ And Wes's at 7$?
I also went to one where I got off the 60 on Nogales heading towards San bernandino and made a left on Nogales then a right on walnut? And they had chicks there for 4$ too.

I think the place on the Nogales exit is called Cantrells tacopaco :D

And forgot to mention I go to kruse feed store for organic scratch n peck feed.

That's great to know, especially since it's only a couple of miles from me. I thought they only had Modesto Mills and thought I'd have to go further to Blacksmith's or another feed shop for Scratch & Peck. Thanks!

Yeah I think it was cantrells. Lol
And yeah they have had some in stock each time I went. You can also preorder it from healthy paws and blue hills nursery on Whittier. Healthy paws is a pet store that does cat adoptions and doesn't have chicken stuff but the owners have a couple chickens and order the feed for you if go and ask. And blue hills nursery is well a nursery but does carry the 25 lb layer of scratch n peck but will order what you want if you go and ask to but I think the lady who orders is only there on Fridays?

Wes's prices went up in the last couple years but then he does refund your money if your "pullet" turns out a cockerel. I don't believe that guarantee applies to bantams however.

What was the name of the Nogales feed store? Was it in City of Industry or Rowland Heights or Hacienda Heights or ???
