  • This event is for meeting up with those in OC who have hens or want to raise hens. The location is near Mile Square Park with location to be emailed. Roberta of Los Angeles Urban Chicken Enthusiasts will discuss how to start an OC chicken Meetup group, and Stephanie will discuss starting out with hens in OC. We will announce events, locations and a group in OC where you can see hens or learn how to raise them, and discuss how to change the code in your city if chickens aren't allowed, which is a problem for many of those in Orange County.

For those of you who breed... When you have runts who appear healthy but are not growing: Do you; kill, cull. or keep? No judging, thanks!

Culling is only to remove from your breeding program. What ever means you choose. I would just remove them and let them be with the mixed flock.

I have eighteen acres so the amount of chickens I have is only limited by predation. Right now I have Zero.

I was out of town for a month - how is your bird?

Sorry we had a death in the family and I'm not quiet myself yet...... I was unable to take to the vet as the tragedy happened on the 15 th that Monday and my 2 1/2 year old niece was on life support for a week , then pronounced....

There is no smell and I just finished with dry pox .. Or thought I had... It is larger I can see the cottage cheese in corner or eye , but can not dislodge it yet ... I have been using warm water and massaging lump trying to get it to be able to move out through eye lid but I think it needs to be lanced ... But I am unable to take to vet at this time financially with memorial services and such ...
Thank you for your concern .....

the first thing I think of with swollen sinuses and puss is Coryza - its a stinky smelling discharge, often bubbly

fowl pox will also present that way but not stinky

I find it interesting that vets will prescribe Baytril - the FDA bans enrofloxacin use on poultry - but its very effective. I use agrimycin (chlortetracycline) injection as my first line.

As my farm is in a country where I can get generic baytil for $15 per 100ml - I do have it as a last resort. Here the brand name is over $100 for 100ml. Agrimycin is $15 for 100ml and you can get it on line without a prescription

Good luck
