CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

At this point I would say utility flock for the Delawares. I bought a few (also from Sand Hill) just to see how they would fare in my area - Central Valley heat... They've done very well and I fell in love with their personalities so I plan to better my birds and eventually show some. I lost my rooster in the fall so I definitely need to get a replacement for him. I've also finally bit the bullet and ordered an incubator. So purchasing some hatching eggs will be in my future this spring as well. I'm excited about that!

ChickenStars and MrsMoonCat I added you to the first post in the members section. Welcome to the thread and BYC.

There's a thread for people who are attending the Fresno show.

Maybe you can ask about meetups during the show.

Read the first post on this thread and see if you have information in any of the sections that you'd like me to add. Fell free to come in and hang out with the rest of us any time.

I was asking because I want to rehome my SH Del roo and will probably have an extra cockerel from these Braden Dels. But none of them are show quality. They would be great for someone who simply wants them for producing eggs and meat.

In March I will be getting hatching eggs from James-Skyline farms. He has started a Basque Hen thread and is offering the eggs at a very good price to get the breed going in the US.

These are Mediterranean chickens but are not flighty. They come from a place that has the same climate as I do in North/Central California. James posted today that they lay better than any other chicken he has ever had on his farm, better than the Leghorns. They lay a brown large to extra large egg.

Check out the chicks at post 770: www.backyardchickens.com/t/510045/euskal-oiloa-basque-thread/760

I will post more about these when they hatch. I really want to see how they do here in the summer.

Ronott1,

Thank you for posting that info. I checked out the links and they look like they would be a great match for this climate. I will look forward to your updates.

Howdy! I'm a newbie both to chickens and to this website and am eager to learn more about my chickens. I live in Dixon and am more than happy to accept any tid bits about my area or any recommendations on where to go to get supplies/feed. I normally shop at the TSC here in Dixon but I'm never opposed to checkin out new places! Hope to hear from yall soon!

and the California thread. I added you to the member list in the first post.

I was just in Dixon on Saturday, but I have no idea where to send you. Hopefully someone from that area will chime in and give you some ideas.
