CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Sunny,
I am so happy you are getting a few Yokos. I can't wait to tell Aaron, but he's not up yet.....LOL. I have a bunch of his eggs in the bator. If they do well & you want a few more chciks to go with yours next time you are here we will send some home with you. They are really laying well now & we hatched out 2 little buggers about a week or so ago & are perplexed because they came out black.......How can that be????? What color are yours? We do have that one little pullet in there that is a Yokohama red/slate. I honestly don't remmeber what color she was when she hatched. I didn't think she was laying yet. She was much younger than the other 3 & from a completely different breeder. Last week Aaron brought in an egg from that pen that was about the size of a nickle & was much darker than the Red Shoulder eggs we get everyday so I thought it was the other little pullet's first egg but nothing since.

I have been putting in the OEs from the Blue Copper Marans girlsin that first pen. I have a Black/split Am & a Blue Am cockerel in there. We will see. I hope the Marans paint is not so dark that ir completely covers the blue of the Ams.
I have a younger pen with a couple of Blue Copper pullets coming up that I may use for OEs too. There is a Splash pullet in there too but she is clean legged so I haven't decided what to do with here yet. She will probably go straight to the layer pen & not get bred but I will wait & see what egg she lays.

LOL That's how I read it. Yea I did that but then unwrapped it after a bit so it wouldn't get too waterlogged.

OMG I just got up to check on that egg before I hit submit and there is another Yokohama almost completely zipped! I just checked them an hour ago. This one is a healthy li'l bugger!

We have 4 Yokos now! They are all mostly yellow with a few splotches of color.

I would love to pick up more Yoko eggs from you for the Easter hatch that Kim has talked me into joining but not sure if I can make it to your place in the next week.

Do you think you could have a couple dozen together by then if I can plan a run down there?

Karen, they should be fine. I have three OEs from someone else's birds that lay a beautiful dark olive egg. They are Black Ameraucana and Black Copper Marans cross.

Thanks Jules,

So glad to hear that. I don't normally do crosses but I want those colored eggs. Have you seen Kate's pictures on the OE thread?? She's the one that lives in Winton. She has a beautiful array of colors.
I am getting excited about Walt's class..................LOL

Sunny,
They are laying well right now so I can start collecting for you anytime you want.
That is the color they are supposed to be. What the heck these 2 little black ones I hatched out are I have not a clue. I quess we will see as they grow.

My lone survivor BBS AM laid her first egg. When I first grabbed it out of the box I though it looked green. When I brought it in and marked it it is blue. Thank goodness! I wish my Wellie would lay something or even my Cuckoo Marans pullet. I finally saw the egg's creater of a darker pink egg. It's my splash Marans. Into the project group for her. I did need another pink egg layer, so I guess it's ok.

How exciting for you! Especially since you weren't sure any would hatch!

Hi everyone!

I just found this thread. I'm in Oakdale and raise bantam cochins and silkies. I'm just getting started in silkies with a black pair I bought from Aimee Crego and have a few I hatched from Catdance eggs. My cochins I'm focusing on the brown reds and lemon blues and selling every other random color I have. We moved to a new place a month ago and I have to get reorganized.

I know! I can't believe how resilient these babies can be sometimes. I am so thrilled!

Hi Jenjeran!

Welcome to the California thread! I used to travel to Oakdale often when I lived in Manteca. Is it still nice and peaceful there?
