CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

What is going on on this site? Took me forever to post. I copied and pasted it in an email to myslef and shut down and when I clicked post it loaded up the window with blank quotes. I've been trying to get back in here since 5pm.

I can't get quotes to work either. I'm about at my data limit til the 21st so can't spend a lot of time online right now and of course the site starts acting up!

Karen I don't know what crimp beads are. I am just learning and I wanted to make some feather earrings for my girls, my neice and my youngest son's GF. The lady at the bead store didn't have anything to crimp them together so she glued them into beads for me but I would like to have something that doesn't rely on just glue to hold them in place. I've seen these crimp fasteners at the store on feather jewelry but I am open to anything you gals recommend since you are much more knowledgeable about this than I am!

The lady that owns the bead store is just a love but she freely admits that she has no idea how to work with feathers in jewelry. I figure with all these gorgeous birds around it is a shame to not use the feathers. Steve has been collecting them for 3 years now. I kept asking him why he keeps picking them up and bringing them in the house and he says he just likes them and can't seem to throw away the really pretty ones. When we saw some of the feathered jewelry at the store we both just looked at each other like "duh"! We can finally put these feathers to use. haha

Kim thank you so much for helping me out!!! I'm such a newbie but it is something I can do even when my back is acting up so I am really excited about it! You are such a Sweetie!!!!!

BTW do you ever use white peafowl feathers? I am getting some white peafowl chicks in August. I know it will be a year or so before they will have nice feathers I can use but I'm thinking the smaller feathers might be more usable for jewelry. Don't know what I would do with the really large feathers that the males eventually get. It takes 3 years for a peacock to fully mature though. Guess I'm getting a little ahead of myself looking forward to white peafowl feathers this soon. lol

YES! First dibs on peacock feathers. LOL

Wish I had space for them too. I almost got back into them about 8 years ago, but Bill knew how loud they get and I couldn't get them passed him. LOL

What I'm sending are crimps, but there are also beads that you crimp to close off your work so it doesn't come undone. I should have added some of those to your packet.

lol! You've sent enough stuff! Thanks again!

I don't blame Bill for nixing the peacocks. We have a lot of space for them and can put their aviary far from the bedroom windows! haha They are terribly noisy during breeding season. Takes me a bit to get used to them but once I get used to the "scream" I'm fine. I couldn't handle them if I lived on a small lot though!

I will definitely save you some feathers when they get older. The whites have a much wispier feather than the typical (India blues) peacock. I love them though. Plus they are super sweet compared to some of the varieties.

OK I have more chicks for sale. Didn't mark these either, so my lav egg project is in there. Those chicks hatch so well that I get several at a time. I'm running out of space for my next hatch. Some of my older ones, almost 3 months old I think are marked so pretty that Kayla and I couldn't decide who to sell. Same with the 2 cockerels, so we're going to keep them. LOL Another "Howdy Neighbor!" move.

I'm still getting NO Game eggs, No Cuba eggs and NO Sumatra Eggs. I think it's their housing, so I really need to get them better quarters. I've gotten 1 Modern Game egg, so someone started laying. hmmm I have 6 breeds not doing anything. It's got to be something I'm not doing, so once school is out I'll have a lot more time to work on things out there. The yard I got 1/2 turned is now covered in foxtails.

I don't have anything in my raised bed, because I don't have it chicken proof. Man I'm so behind.

I forgot to tell you all what I got for Mother's Day.

My friend and I walked around to all the vendors and she kept finding opal jewelry that she couldn't pass up. Every vendor that she bought from shook my hand and said to bring her back. LOL The last place we stopped she told me not to let her buy anything else, Yeah right, she bought 2 opal braclettes and a ring. I kept looking but didn't buy anything, but I saw a table where they had big chunky abalone and crystal necklaces and there was one I fell in love with. My friend told me to buy it and then tell my daughter I picked out my gift and reimburse me. I can't do that. I didn't expect anything and I sure didn't want to go over her budget. So that was saturday. On sunday my youngest daughter walked up with a bag and said Happy Mother's Day. I pulled out the abalone necklace I had seen the day before, that I was trying to talk myself into buying. I asked if Cathy, our friend had shown it to her the day before and she said no, but she had called and asked her what it looked like and where it was. Later I went back to the same stand with daughter #2 who wanted to buy me something bigger, but I got earrings to go with the necklace. It's what I wanted. The lady that knew I wanted the necklace was there and I held it up from my neck and said "Got it and didn't have to pay for it!" She got the biggest smile and shook my hand and told me Happy Mother's Day. When I told my daughter I let her know and how she seemed so happy, she said "So that's why she looked so upset to sell it." She said she picked it out and they lasy says "this one?" in a kind of hurt voice and she kind of looked around like she wasn't sure she should let it go. awwww

Then daughter #3 says there's another gift. My 3 oldest girls are sending me to Vegas (my flights are free) along with my cousin. They'll pay for her pass and then for our hotel. I've been wanting to go, but without Bill, I have no one to go with and my cousin Nicole is a crazy person, so we'll definately have fun. So I'm going to Vegas probably next month. This weekend I have a baby shower and next weekend my grand daughter is graduating from high school, so this month has been and will be crazy. But I get to go someplace with a grownup and no kids and no wake up time. Yeah me!

Oh my gosh, this sounds fabulous and fun and just what you need for yourself. I never met Bill, heck, I've never met you, but I can't imagine that Bill wants you to live without doing things that you had love to do! I pray these things change your outlook on life and you find a life of happiness... I'm coming down to San Francisco for an appt with my surgeon on the 31st. I'd love to buy a couple of your pullets. I may have a day or so to stay if my husband is working on a bridge down there again and stay with him. Love to meet some of you!
