CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I'm in Modesto but I only have bantams.

Same here and mine aren't the best. Cute as heck, but that's about it. I was trying to get rid of them months ago, but Kayla scooped them all up and cried. Plus they were so cute and friendly I just couldn't do it.

Hello everybody. I am searching for three nice BA female chicks as close to my home as possible so shipping is faster. I had posted this inquiry on the BA thread and Ron was kind enough to suggest I post it here. I found California hatchery after spending time searching tonight. They have BA day old chicks, I can order 3 chicks with guaranteed delivery. Do you know anyone that has ordered from them? I wonder if they have nice BA's or not. I am confused because the page lists origin: Holland. Does that make sense to you? Please let me know what you think. Or what you may have heard about this hatchery good or bad. Anyone with experience with them? Thank you very much.

I don't know that hatchery. Hopefully someone else here does.

BTW, welcome to the thread. I'll add you to the first post. What area of the state are you located. That might help with maybe finding someone with chicks or pullets nearby for you. Lots of breeders of lots of breeds on this thread. I'm in the Central Valley. Karen (sewngrow) had some very nice Aussies from a great breeder. I can't remember if she still has them, but even if she doesn't, I bet she knows who does.

OK my day, yes I know it's 2am, but just got home. Went with my 2nd oldest daughter, Dakotah, Makayla, my youngest sister and her daughter and 2 of my oldest daughter's kids. We were at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton. The kids had a blast. Dakotah found his new love. Nope, not a girl. Mechanical Bull! He's so withdrawn and doesn't get out and just try things and the woman running it was amazing. He watched for 4 hours! Then called me up and said "I need your signature to ride mom." He doesn't handle motion well, so the first time, the ride was LONG! She wanted to make sure he got enough time on it since he had been there all day. I had to walk him to a table to sit down and my sister and my daughter ran for drinks, cause he hadn't had anything since like 2pm. It was already after 9. He drank a while and the lady came and talked to me and was saying she felt bad about him getting so dizzy. I told her about his health issues at 10 months and she really felt bad. I told her not too. He was so excited, although he looked bored and never smiled. She said she was going to make him smile and have some fun. Soooooo.....she calls him over to the bull they hadn't used all day and got on and showed him how to ride. Then he was back on it. She made sure we had cameras out and said to take ics when he smiled and then she just let him have it. She had him cracking up and riding that thing. He wasn't good, but he had a blast. He never has fun like that anymore.

Luckily I took my wrist brace along today. We went to the Rick Springfield concert. I have a serious question. Why did I age and he hasn't???? We clapped and jumed around so much I hurt and my wrist is swollen, but it was soooooo worth it. LOL

Went to the Small Animal barn. I did good. No chickens!!! I bet you're all proud and shocked. Don't be. I have a new Sable Point Lionhead doe sitting on my lap helping me type and digging her back nails into my leg.

Think I need sleep. Oh.....it's garbage night. One more thing to do.

Kim,

Isn't Rick Springfield amazing??? My mom was a huge fan of his and I got to take her to see him at the casino here not too long before she passed away. We had such a good time and I was so happy she got to enjoy it :) It is rather annoying how beautifully he has aged..and he still has a great voice.

That is great Dakotah had fun on the bull. It is definitely not as easy as a lot of people think.

Thank you very much wolftracks for your warm welcome.

Actually I am not living in CA but since the hatchery in question (in my first post in here) is in your state I thought maybe someone in CA would know something about it. I live up north from you in the state of WA. I look forward to hearing from anyone that may have some experience with this hatchery. Or actually anyone that would know where I could purchase 3 good female BA's from a reliable source. I want them for egg laying pets not breeding or showing. But I want to insure as much as possible I get healthy and attractive BA's for obvious reasons. Thank you very much in advance for any help.

BTW, I hope you don't mind me saying since I really don't know you, etc. ... that was a beautiful heartwarming story you wrote about Dakotah.

All my best to everyone,

~Dee~

Dee I already added you to the thread, so you'll have to come in and visit us. LOL Seriously. I post on the Nevada thread too. You are welcome to come hang out any time you want. Give me your area and I'll add it. And if you look at the first post, you'll see members from other states too.

I know what you mean by just egg laying pets, but when you think about it, you can probably find chicks from a breed that's locale. Most breeders are working on health issues and not just a pretty beak. Hatchery birds tend to burn out on their egg laying at a younger age and many end up with other health issues, because they were bred to produce early with high egg production. Then again there are people who have been lucky enough to have their's live for a long time. Just something to concider. And thank you. Dakotah is my baby and when he comes out of hiding and explores, I always feel like there's hope for more.

Yep, good ole Rick, don't seem so old. I'd become a groupy, but by the time I got home and rubbed Arnica into my wrist, I needed it for both knees and I only had one bad one, my back and ............what the heck did I do to my hip???
