Once I was on vacation by myself and had a whole day to just drive around. I was in the Mono Lake/Mammoth Lake area. Just for the heck of it, I decided to take every side road that had a "water word" in it (river, creek, lake, etc). Some roads were just that, a road. But I discovered some of the most beautiful hidden little lakes that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.stoney Creek Falls............just the name sounds enchanting. Oh waterfalls, ponds, creeks......I love them. I guess I need to have a section on the first post for auctions, so wherever you are in the state, give me some info and I'll start adding them. Trying to get through my first 4th alone. Last year was thw first one without Bill and we wnt to my daughter's but we had always had a big BBQ and fireworks at whatever house we lived. Two years ago today it was just us and my youngest daughter and her two youngest (Makayla and Elayjah) and Bill complained of bad chest pains while we were letting off fireworks. He said he thought he needed to go to the ER and then wouldn't go when I tried to get him there. He said he just wanted to wait until the 12th when he had his appointment at the VA clinic. Well he went to get ready and died before he even made it to that appointment, so the 12 is 2 years he will be gone, but today was the day he probably could have found out what was going on and still be here. Last year I didn't do well at all. I watched kids and my SILs let off firworks, attended the BBQ and thought about Bill. This year, Makayla and I are BBQing and making a fruit platter and we'll set off fireworks tonight. Making myself get through this, but it's kind of hard. I just think if I can do this for just us, maybe next year I can go bigger again. Oh and we're making ice cream. That year Bill was gone for 2 hours looking for rock salt for his homemade ice cream. I finally talked him into coming home with Kosher salt and eatting. That man was addicted to ice cream and since I didn't make it that often he was determined to get his 4th of July fix. Haven't nade it since he died, so I'm making myself do it this year. I think I'm getting there, but geez it would be a lot more fun with him here.
Hello. Hope you had a good 4th celebration. I have come to dislike fireworks as my two Poms struggle with the load noises from them. It was fortunate for me that I received a sample of a calming doggie chew the week before. It actually worked pretty well whereas the other types I have tried were completely useless. Anyway, I got a kick out of your story and wanted to tell you so. Your husband was a remarkable man is my sense. Made me giggle when I read his response to the real reason your house decison. I find it is a precious gift to be in a relationship with a husband that understands you on that level. So cool!Karen I did sell several on CL, but after a while I just couldn't deal with some of the people. Didn't matter how many pics I could send or whatever, but a couple just drove me crazy. I don't deal well with people anymore, remember. LOL Dee the auction was very addicting for me. I used to do once a month and then when we were looking for a cheap place to rent I agreed with this house because it's 2 short blacks away. The first monday after we moved in I was up and ready to walk over and my husband said "WOW! Now I know why you didn't complain about this house!" LOL I just smiled, held my hand out and we both laughed as I took off out the door. Cash in hand. hehe I didn't go much after he died and then started going every week. Then my grand daughter started kindergarten and I got tired of getting there late and having to leave early. I went out today to feed and water. There's still feed out there! YAY! LOL Amazing what even tiny chicks can put away. BTW I lived on Ranier as a baby. I love that mountain even now. When my great grandmother moved there years later we would visit her in Auburn every summer and she remodeled her kitchen so she could see the mountain from almost every angle of her house. I never remember the rain. I spent some winters there. Started the 6th grade there, but all I remember is heat and snow. Haven't been there since her funeral 23 years ago, but I keep saying I'm going back to see relatives. I remember picking blue berries for hours at a time every day for a week. I used to want to move there until I just could take the cold even here, so wouldn't be a good fit for me. I'll send you a little of this heat though. And I'm so glad you're visiting us on this thread and meeting people. That's awesome. Cheryl you can always come out and go to the auction here. I think I blew it. I was thinking prices would still be a little higher this week since it's the first art of the month. DUH! 4th of July??? Everyone's leaving for the lake.
