CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Jason from Norcal here. Hello all

I am looking for the following if anyone knows where I can get some. hopefully within 150 miles of Sacramento though I may drive farther.

White Empordanesa hatching eggs

Penedesenca
Black ,Crele , wheaten.

I presently have
Icelandic's that are laying. 2 hens and a rooster with a few more growing up. all my icelandic's are crested so far.

A breeding quad of Crele Penedesenca a few months old. hopefully I can offer hatching eggs from them in the future. very good looking rooster and hens are pretty. these came from extremely dark wet terra cotta colored eggs

Hi Jason and welcome to the California thread. I'll add you to the first post. I tried once, but it's not letting me edit for some weird reason.

I have no more Penes. I couldn't even keep a pair for some reason and had a few. I had hatched some out too . Usually lost them during the cold. But I did get a couple of them in Sac from Mediazeal. Might want to pm her. She had very nice eggs and the birds were gorgeous. I'm hoping to add more Penes later on too. I love them, but I always bite off more than I can chew which is my problem right now. I know someone else mentioned having them but not sure who. I think Sewngrow also had some, but sold them. Maybe she knows who she sold too.

I'm not sure what happened. I lost one hen right off the roost. Must have been a draft, because he feet were formed as if roosting anf she literally dropped dead. I hope you find what you're looking for, so I have a conection for eggs later on.

It did not have to be the cold. Penes are listed as being ultra Heat hardy but not "hardy" Confusing LOL.

The eggs are even hard to hatch.

Hopefully we can get them to be more hardy by breeding the hardiest ones.

Ron

Edited to correct type of Ultra hardiness. Ron

yes. well my crele's seem to be pretty tough. we lost power a few times after they hatched. they far out handle my other breeds when it is hot.
I have 3 young hens and my young rooster who is my avatar. so I will be more than happy to share the eggs once they lay..
they came from a very wet terra cotta looking egg. good sized egg and pretty dark. the eggs where darker than the wheatens I tried. I know it was a much different time of year.

Looks like I'll be trying to find a Silver Pheonix roo. I found mine laying in the pen a few minutes ago. I don't know how old he was, but bought him at the Stockton show last January. These hens don't lay much and I had a hard time getting them to hatch and lost ever chick before they were just over 2 weeks old, from every hatch. I had planned to hatch as many as possible and brood them together from now on, but that's futile at this point. I'd never even gotten pics of him and his long beautiful tail. Everyone else seems fine, they all have lots of water. He's just gone. I had hoped to add at least 2 more trios of them through these birds and now, it's like having none without a rooster.
