I would love to "go local". But, the local breeder was arrested in 2009 as a sex offender: not kidding. So, the nearest breeder is WA and they are not breeding 'till next year.

On a seperate note, have any if you built/tried a pond for your flock? My
Chickens love an occasional large puddle. What about a small pond?

Chickens will become water logged in water so they can drown. They will swim for a while. They will also drown in Horse troughs.

I have been on a mission for California laid Jersey Giant eggs. Its near impossible.

that's crazy!!! I've seen a breeder of blue black and splash jersey giants on craigslist in sacramento... I can't find that specific breeder at the moment but here's some ads

Alibra...Thank you for the craigslist reference. I did call both breeders and they are 30 days from hatch. Only the Lodi person has Splash Giants, but I have to call back in 30 days.

Ozexpat, what is it about JG eggs that you like so much?

It may take us a while, but our JG chicks are healthy and doing well. I personally can't wait for eggs.

I like the size!

I want them as part of my free range flock to admire as they come past my house as the sun comes up.
