CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I have some help today from BluesChicken! He's helping me alphbetize our California page, so members and breeders section will be in order so that members are easier to find. I want to thank Dave for the help. It was so nice to volunteer to do.

I have one complaint. I'm now on the bottom of the list! :th :hit   :gig

Well I hate to say it but I like the breeder's page being set up with the first to post being listed first. It gives us an idea of who's been on here the longest and it seemed very fair to have it in the order of first come first served. I do wish we had the breeds listed in alphabetical order though! It's very hard to look for the breeds you are interested in the way it is set up. If we have a list of breeds available then the breeders could be listed below each breed with the varieties each breeder offers. If no one wants to do this I'd be willing to do it. I am in the process of doing this for the Nevada thread and I can just copy the format I'm using there. The breeds really need to be easy to find.

Sunny, just wanted to mention my Minerva, your former Minnie, is still with us and still laying well. She's a fairly high ranking gal in the flock, too.

How COOL!!! I thought I saw her in one of your pics! Thank you for letting me know she's still with you. :D

Get those suckers loaded!!! I love seeing your pics. And I haven't seen any of the dogs lately, so you need to share those too.

Yes there are a lot of people who seem to have no problem with stealing someone elses pics and using them to sell their own brds. I have horrible pics. I used to be so camera ready and then my youngest sister got her first 35mm and now she does them all. I couldn't even come up with an amount of money I spent way back when. I had a dark room and stored all of my equipment (other than what I carried 24/7 ) and someone broke into my house and even stole my boxes of all of my pictures and my photo albums. I have no pics of my kids as babies anymore up until 1998. We never figured out how they got in, but it had to be the front of my house because at the time I have 12 Rotties. Now??? My dinophone camera is all I have. I do have a 35mm somewhere and a couple of digitals, but I haven't  touched them since Bill died. We always took all the pics of the grandkids before all of thier balls and proms and there'd be up to 30 teens that we took shots of before they all left in limos or party buses from my oldest daughter's house.

Haha! Let me finish up the breeder pens. I'm almost done and I'm anxious to get the finishing touches completed. :)

That so stinks that you had all your photography equipment stolen!!! I would cry!!!!! :(

That's great! I can add you to be able to edit too. I wish I had dates for when everyone joind this thread. Maybe it can be an ongoing project and I can get some of them done a little at a time. I'll have to go through the whole thread to do it.

Dang it! I can't get any pics to load again!!! How annoying!

Did someone say quality pics equal stolen pics? Let's not start that kind of rumor. Although there are folks out there that steal other people's photos I don't think they are the majority. I used to be a professional photographer and I think some of my photos are pretty darn good... and yes they may even look professional. lol I've also seen some wonderful pics on BYC from quality breeders and backyard hobbyists. I try to take the best pics I can of my flock when someone asks or when selling chicks or eggs. By next year I'm determined to put together a nice web-site with beautiful, full color pics of my breeding stock. But I sure hope no one holds it against me if all the photos are in focus!

I said if to ask for current egg pics. I DO however watch for professional pictures. You can tell pretty quickly if the pictures are " in line" with the web site, etc. And if you can tell the photo is from Florida, and the birds are in California, it ain't theirs. If I ask for pictures of the birds I will be getting or the eggs right NOW ( for Marans, where the eggs every week can be different) and its a perfect photo, I do more homework. Different story if its your website, etc. Part of this comes from my other job, where we buy furniture and people take photos of stuff that is not the actual item and I go see a couch and its the wrong color, wrong style, ok, it is a flower print for 1960 but they are SURE the photo they put up is very close!

But a LOT of photos on ads are stolen. Mostly granted on eBay and CL (and for that matter rare breeds) . I don't think I have ever seen it on BYC. You can tell pretty quickly if someone has stolen the photos by the follow up question/photo/etc. All I was saying is that you cant judge a book by its cover in an ad :).

But, I also don't think 15 per chick is crazy, I charge that much for my FCBM's and know a lot of people that charge that for their silkies, but I'd want them to be good quality too for that price i agree.

I know a fair few backyard poultry enthusiasts watermark their photos because theft is so prevalent. Especially by Novice breeders that don't get why it is important to show photos of the parent stock of what they are selling. Heck, one of the photos I use on CL to let people know what a showgirl looks like has shown up on another site, and its CLEARLY not professional, lol.

Now, while we are having this discussion, how to I convince you to come take some photos for me!! :D.

Did Shantih get her Bresse from you?

If so, thank You! I have one of the pullets and she is very sweet.
yes, we did and pet rock did. Breese breese everywhere yipee!

Clovis has just started to crow. I have a Silkies roo in with them ( he got beat up and cant go with other roos yet, still bald, but was lonely) and he s trying to teach him how to do it. They stand together and oriley bellows, then clovis croaks, and Orilly hops up and down saying NONONO LIKE THIS! and crows again. Clovis is only up for a few before he tries to hide behind a pullet.
